go the left of your exhaust manifold a couple inches, there should be some letters/ numbers printed on your block about 1.5 centermeters tall.
it should read something like this
D15
D16
and the rest are there...

So you're engine is a phone?
vtec
It's probably a d16z6 if it's vtec. And those 16 things under the valve cover don't tell you anything about your engine except for it's 16 valve.

To check your engine code, look at the block stamp. To find the block stamp, open your hood, and look down and to the left of your exhaust manifold. You should see this:

The 4- or 5-character code stamped onto the flat section is your engine code. You can see in the picture here that this engine's code is "B16A," which means that it is a JDM B16A engine.

Nope. The "16" part of "D16" denotes the displacement. D16 = 1.6L, D15 = 1.5L, B18 = 1.8L and so on. What you counted under the valve cover was the number of valves - your car has a 16-valve engine.

You probably have a D16Z6, which is the standard 1992-1995 Si, 1992-1995 Ex 4-door, and 1993-1995 EX engine.
Can you not just look on the block code as pictured above?
Also why are you removing the valvecover? I hope you have a new gasket and 4 sparkplug tube seals and a tube of Hondabond or else you'll have a topside oil leak.
Also be VERY careful not to overtighten the 10mm nuts on the valvecover because you will break the studs easily if you're not careful.

you change your V/C gasket and tube seals every time you pull your V/C???
I just changed my for the first time at 175k mi. and the seals were a LITTLE worn and the V/C was totally fine.

that's what i'm thinking. i have pulled my valve cover probably 5 or 6 times this past month alone, and have not changed any of my seals or gaskets
so far so good, finds wood.

Jesus Christ do you realize that Honda says to change them every 30k miles?
Have you ever had a valve adjustment done?
I don't take chances, and for $12.00 worth of parts it's not like i'm wasting money to ensure a good seal on my valve cover.

Do you realize honda has a LOT of them and there's only one way to sell them?
It's very good quality rubber... I saved mine... I'll take a pic... it looked NO better or worse than the brand new one out of the honda bag...
I adjust my valves every 15k or so... it's not like removing the V/C causes some sort of trauma to the gasket... As long as it isn't dry or cracked and doesn't tear where you put rtv on by the cam hump it's fine...
And what exactly am I putting at risk? the V/C isn't pressurized... it's not like if the seal is leaking it's going to cause any more damage than ugliing up my a little.
I'm not saying never replace it but everytime you take off the V/C... that's a little extreme to say the least.
the only thing that was worn at all on mine (175k mi) was the tube seals... and they would've worked fine if I just rubbed them with a little oil... It's not like they were leaking or would've leaked...

Yeah, I've never had a problem with my VC gasket or seals.
I don't even use gasket maker/Hondabond on the corners usually.
And I pull my valve cover(s) at least once a month....I'm a busy body
