How long should you go? before you change your oil.......
I had an argument with a friend the other day who about "amsoil this and amsoil that." See he has a d15b runnin 10psi through it daily driven....stock motor just a bolt on kit...and he just last changed his oil at 5k miles.....
Now okay amsoil does make good stuff and you can last longer then your normal oil change..but who here thinks that you should still change the oil at 1800-2500 vs 5k despite the fact that its amsoil....
Hes like my dad goes 25k miles and on there website they go like 30 and 40k before the oil starts loosing viscosity and etc...but still in a cars like we have i think 5k would be way to much.
Input on when everyone changes there oil...oil they use...reasons why this is okay or bad...etc.

ur friends turbo is not going to last too long at that rate....tell him to change it more often...3000 kms with synthetic at most...
I know nothing about the amsoil other then your suposed to be able to go longer between oil changes.
I run castrol and change mine about every 2k - 2.5k.
It's his engine and his money, I see nothing wrong with changing the oil at 5k when its suposed to last a lot longer, thats why he pays more for it. I won't bother with that crap, My oil works good, and is cheap ($12 for oil change)

Thats what I told him, and he got in an argument how amsol lasts 10xs longer then mobil 1 and cuz its amsol its still lubricating at higher mileage......it shows on there website yada yada yada...but i wanted to post this to prove him wrong...despite the "name" of the oil..

I can't believe you change your oil every 1800 miles. That's absolutely absurd. If you use even a decent blend, there's no reason that's necessary. Do you have an F1 car?

Right but my point was that it still gets dirty....its not that u loose viscosity but the fact that the oil DOES still get dirty......which is why we change it so soon....

Thats why you have a oil filter.
If it traps harmfull particles in the first 1800 miles, it's still going to trap them at 5k miles...If thats the reason why you recomend that he changes sooner then he does, you just lost your argument.

Right but my thinking is when u drain it after 5k of driving in 3 months......its jet black.....now the oil filter doesnt clean everything.....and when dirty oil is ran through a 10psi motor...id think itd not be the greatest thing to brag about....

Not just any oil. If it's made to last for long peroids of time (well beyond 5k miles) then yeah it's fine. If using regular 10 -30 then no.

the life of ur turbo is soo dependant on good oil that I would change it before 5000...but thats just me...having addtional wear and tear to ur motor is not as detrimental compared to ur turbo!
So what happens once the filter is full and bypasses the oil around the filter? Then it woulden't help to have good oil that doesn't break down if it's just circulating crud around your motor.

If you change really often use something cheap. On a few cars I use supertech (walmart brand) oil. @ $0.88 a quart, you can change it everytime you get gas.

Ack! I just read that site, and I use a Fram filter! I buy them because of the sure grip surface on the back makes changing oil a snap...but ****, I may need to start looking for other filter brands.
Ya the fram does look kinda crappy (for a corvette fitment at least). I guess I'll stick with the NAPA /Wix ones since I get them wholesale and they seem to be pretty decent quality. Otherwise the Mobil one looks good if your a baller.
