can a SI TRANNY be bolted onto a standard motor using the stds axles?
hey guys well im pretty sure my input shaft bearing on the new std hatch i just bought is toasted, my question is my friend has a spare Si tranny from a crx. will everything bolt right onto the std? including shift linkage/axles. etc? can i just use the clutch from the standard tranny?
In a word... Yes, and you'll have much better gearing.
Use the STD's axles and shift linkage.
However, you'll need to find out the year of the tranny.
If it's an 88, You'll need an '88 clutch, pressure plate, and flywheel (you can use a 90-91 PP & Flywheel if you use an 88 accord clutch disk) The easiest way to tell an 88 is to count the # of splines on the input shaft (88 = 21 spline, 89-91 = 20 spline)
If it's an 89, do yourself a favor and use a 90-91 clutch, PP & flywheel (212mm clutch disk as opposed to 200mm)
If the tranny is a 90-91, obviously use the 90-91 clutch kit.
The year of your STD doesn't matter, the year of the tranny is the determining factor.

u said 89-91 has 20 splines so how do u know exactly which ones are 90-91 and whicih ones are 89?

If you look at the tip of the input shaft (the part that would slide into the pilot bearing) you will see a single groove cut around the circumfrence on the 89's, 90-91 will have 2 grooves.
Either way shouldn't matter, I'd still use the larger 90-91 clutch kit & flywheel. If your car is an 89 and you want to go cheap and not replace the clutch (not recomended) or re-use your flywheel and just get a new 89 clutch kit, then you're still ok using an 89-91 tranny.
Edit: I thought I had a picture of my 89si shaft so I could show you, but this is the only one I could find.... doesn't do you much good, does it.
