I like it! I don't do lap times in the car but for enduros, I simply put a Radio Shack stopwatch zipped tied to the stearing wheel. However, yours took some engineering

thanks actually my friend made it.

lol it also uses a ziptie ...to hold the stretchy phone cord to the steering colum

works nice, don't have to take your hands off the wheel.

I think this watch is also from radio shack

Its not cheap, and it isnt a self-contained timing system.

the "cheapest" automated system that I know if is a hotlap.

thats stopwatch scares me!

looks somewhat bomb like!

I think that just a plain old watch tied to the wheel is the best

Awsome. I used velcro on the steering wheel. Mine actually keeps track of laps. (they gave out the timers at a race I went too)

I don't think you got the point....you don't have to take your hand off the wheel as the white button on the wheel activates the "lap/reset button" ...the watch counts 10 laps.

I used to have a stopwatch taped to the steering wheel of my CRX, but 99% of the time I would get so into driving, that I would forget to click it when I passed start/finish. Then I would click it after three laps, and would be trying to divide my lap time by three, when I should be getting ready for the next turn. Now I just use the AMB transponder. LOL!

I still like the automated method. I have a rolleracer (spelling?) - similar to a hot lap system. Just a quick look sometime during the lap if I am curious.

It is also nice because it counts the laps for me. In the events that are based upon the amount of laps completed, it lets me know when I should go for it a bit more. The tracks I race at do not use the timing boards for SCCA regionals.

I heard a rumor about a new AMB transponder coming out that has a LCD screen for in-cockpit laptimes.
It wouldnt need a sender like a hotlap, would integrate with the AMB timing loop under the track.
Anybody know anything about this?
Seems like the perfect solution.

Anybody have any suggestions for Palm OS-based software for lap timing? I have read about several available. (not that I would suggest using a Palm for in-car timing...)

I have found these freeware lap timers. Havent used them or even loaded them yet so cant say if they are any good

http://www.geocities.com/ggani...r.htm
http://www.freewarepalm.com/clock/khronos.shtml

shareware (uncrippled - but only supports 5 laps)
http://www.seanet.com/~aball/about.html

$40

PocketC and Khronos both look pretty good for being freeware

Intelli-Timer is one of the better Palm timers. Intelli-Timer and a variety of other Windows timing apps are available at:
