Default Atlanta ProSolo Results/stories

Well? I know they have internet access in Atlanta. Anyone with anything to report. I'm particularly interested in:

1) Weather (I assume rain)
2) STS results.
3) GS results.

Thanks!

Weather has been rainy all weekend and rain/snow is 80% chance for tommorow. It didnt' rain too much while STS was on course. During the AM groups it was a slight drizzle but the afternoon session was just wet. I thought the course got a bit faster in the PM but I might have just got more used to the course.

Don't know GS results but STS is being led by 2 subarus. I cone'd myself out of 2nd place for now during my PM runs on the right course. I really should start checking to see if I cone on my first run. Thats twice now my lazyness has got me by that. I think tipple was leading and corey ridget is in 2nd. Don't quote me on this since I didnt look too closly as I was still really tired from waking up at 5am today. I also didnt look past 4th place either. sorry. I'll make sure to get updated results tommorow and post them as it takes scca.com forever.
1)jason tipple 2.5RS
2)corey ridgick 2.5RS
3)Me Civic (.7 behind corey)
4)Jason Saini Corado(.2 behind me)

I must have to say its been great meeting everyone this weekend though. I'm having a great time for my first pro. Watching the STI's go at it too is awesome. 1.7 second 60' times in the rain. I've been consistent at 2.6 and I'm not sure what the 2.5RS's have been doing. With the weather staying like it is I don't think the results will vary too much from how they were today. I'm just hoping I can get lucky and keep my current place.

Those who didn't bring some spare dry socks with them suffered greatly. I brought along three pairs and it still wasn't enough. A nice cold and wet day to savor!

As far as results go, I'm not too sure. I was watching Ryan T. at one point and it looked like he was one of the fastest, if not the fastest Honda out there in STS. Not sure how the awd subarus did.

As far as my day went, it got better as it went on. I got there later than I wanted, I was overwhelmed at first with trying to figure out all the prosolo procedures (this was my first one), getting the car teched on time, trying to put on stickers while it's pouring rain, and finally got about 5 mins to walk half of the courses before it was time to run. I really should have organized my time better and arrived earlier. Needless to say my first 4 runs (2 on each side) were crap and I think I DNFed 3 of them, while the clean run was almost 4 seconds off the leader. We got 20 mins at lunch to walk again and that really helped, but this time I coned all the next 4 runs. An improvement for sure from dnfs! Even though it means nothing at the moment the only “good” news is that at least these latest raw times were within tenths of the leader's. Two more chances left tomorrow, gota get a clean run!

Yeah, no doubt!

And here's a newbie question I've never managed to get answered today. Why is reaction time important during regular runs (not the challenge)? I always saw the reaction time being displayed below the course time. Does it get added to the course time, or is it included in the course time? Basically my question is how does the reaction time figure into the overall results where the best run from each side is taken? Thanks.

In the prosolo the clock starts when the light turns green, not when you cross the sensor. Thats why its important.

I had 6 pair of socks today. Only had time to change them 4 times though. I have all my clothes in the washer/dryer right now getting ready for tommorow.

Ok thanks. That makes sense.

6 pairs? lol Walking through that flooded section where the rivers flow on the right course really killed my shoes/socks. See ya tomorrow and good luck. Go get those AWDs!

bah!

I went the whole day on one pair of socks. Maybe that's why my driving was so bad?

I wish... I suck in the rain... here's to dry weather tomorrow!

I guess some results are better than none. Those things ahve the worst formatting I have ever witnessed (or is it just a Mac thing?) Following the link for a PDF file gets you last years SCCA results from Wendover...

I guess some things will never change.

Ditto...I'm straining my eyes to see what classes the cars are in under the format I see. Good to see some of the local guys doing well (1st, 2nd, and 8th in DS, 6th and 14th in STX).

STX was *really* fast, only ASP and SM2 were quicker from my cursory glance. I'm assuming weather contributed partially to this, but it still looks like Mike, Tom, & Casey were smokin' out there!!!

Yeah. I was off the 1st place pace for sure, about a 0.900 per side, but I'm happy with the results for the most part. Car needs to rotate more, driver needs to learn the car. I may or may not be in Topeka in the WRX in March, we'll see if the owner wants another person in front of him again or not.

The weather sucked, but I was wishing for rain on the way home.... as opposed to the blizzard-like conditions I was facing in Greensboro, NC, and then again in Dinwiddie/Petersburg!!! Ron Bistrais (with a '97 Z28 1LE) was caravaning with me, and he learned first hand why I don't use my Kumho 712s in the winter any more when we had a close encounter (one of many) with some idiots at the I85/I95 junction. In any case, it was a looooooong ride home, but I made it.

Here's a pic that is really not indicative of the amount of rain we had :

This is a good one showing why Pat and Kriemelmeyer left early on Sunday.

My Atlanta Pro Solo story might be summed up by the wet pair of jeans I pulled out of the Firebird this morning ... frozen solid.

As much rain time as I've had in F Bodies over the past year, you would think I would be good at this ****.

fwiw, CSP was combined with ASP, and Rod McGeorge took 1st and Tim Aro 2nd in the combined class. The Danny Popp ASP Z06 took 3rd, I believe.

I was happy with my "Fastest ES without dirt stockers". Cashmores went home with like 6 tires, and a few hundred bucks...not a bad start to the season for Jeff and Denise.

I took dead last in STS.

well... I beat the guys who didn't finish the event.... but if I'm gonna be at the bottom, I wanna do it right.

Yeah, it was wet. When I tossed my jacket in the dryer, it must've weighed 10 lbs.

But it was fun, and I learned alot.

I found it incredibly fun as far as driving the course went. Those who ran on dry r compounds know what I mean. The only problem (which happened to be the fun part) was that the car was rarely pointing straight and I just couldn't keep it narrow enough at times to fit through the course cleanly. Even after 4 runs back to back, the front tires were still stone cold - was going to run the street tires, but they are mounted on 16" wheels. So it was either I got lucky and somehow got a clean run going all out, or was going to end up dead last from all the penalties. Well surprise - it wasn't my luckiest two days! Anybody else kill more than 12 cones this weekend? Had raw times counted for something, I think it would have been enough to split the two drivers driving the winning ITR on dirt stockers, but instead I had to settle for 8th after all the cones lol. At least it was an improved from being 11th after the end of the first day!

As much fun as it was doing fwd rally out there, I do regret a little not having the chance to go up head to head with these guy in the dry to see just how much slower I am. I was impressed with how many good drivers in good cars showed up (from so far away, too!) and don’t know the next time such an opportunity will come up again.

Good luck to those running future Pro Solos this year.

If he can let James E. finish ahead of him for nearly all of last year, I think he wouldn't mind it with you as that person ahead.

I got a little video of Dave Hardy running his amphibious Civic. The video isn't great, but it shows just how wet it got out there...
