Default Notching crossmember, welding plate

I cut off part of the seam on the crossmember but it isnt enough. I have to cut mabye .5" more into it to get my downpipe to fit. Will I be ok if i get a couple of plates welded in the cut sections?

I searched but I couldn't find anything about welding in plates

thanks guys!

BTW: I have a g2

I would say you should be fine... the EF guys do it to fit 4-1 headers on B series motors, and they have to cut out alot more than just a half an inch...
