Need some veteran advise from real autoxer's
Ok guys I got a great engineering gig and had my heart set on a new tsx. Well long story short, Insurance would be about 5K a year and thats just rediculous. (22 male in nj). Anyway, my alternative is to get a less expensive vehicle and autox and just have fun and enjoy the hobby. I dont want to dump extensive money (Doesnt everyone say that?) in mods. Try to stay in stock class. Now my question is what would be the better platform to begin with 99-00 si or 98+ gsr. Now i know a lot about both vehicles, I used to want one of these bad back in 99 but being a broke college kid didnt help.
I know the gsr has 10 more ponies but which handles better in out of turns stuff like that, i mean i know in autox you hardly ever go past 3rd so im just looking for a bit of guidance. I dont want a swapped hatch even if its cheaper in the long run, just looking for a nice daily driver to throw around in some cones on the weekends. Thanx fellas.

To be honest in the stock class Nationally Neither one is great, however in your local club that could be differnt, personally I would go for a gsr, maybe even a 94-97 model but thats just me, the SI is a nice platform but I think the GSR is the one I would choose. little more torque little more HP. Torque is the key in my mind... not that either car has a lot.
For Curiosity sakes what is the preferred car for stock class?? ITR, mazdaspeed protege,?? I mean ideally i could get an ITR I have the finances the payment isnt the problem, its just the insane insurance rates here in jersey, and I could only imagine that an ITR is higher than 6g's a year. Thats just absurd to me, no way.

look past the H man. celica GT's are the car to have for GS.
but if you must, an RSX base looks like it could be a good GS car, but neither the 99-00 Si or GSR are very competitive in stock form.
ITR is definetly the car for DS.

Based on results, Celica GT's for GS and ITR's for DS as mentioned, Mini Coopers in HS, one of the older non turbo MR2s (not sure which years) in ES.

Without getting into alternative choices that may be better competitors, I would choose the Integra. Almost the same weight + more tq from B18c = better. I am biased however since I drive one.

For a little (well ok, a lot) more cash, an ITR is by far your best bet for a dual purpose street/autox car. Keep it stock or throw some konis and race tires and you're good to go. Although the insurance on one of these maybe worse than a brand new TSX...
I would also like to point out that if this is to be your only (or main) street car, the Integra's hatchback design is really nice vs. a trunk. My 93 Integra fits a whole lotta crap in the back, especially with the back seats down.
