i was always told backpressure was the enemy with turbos, and from switching from my 2.5" open downpipe to a 2.5" carsound and a 2.36 greddy exhaust it felt like there was a sock in my throttle body (lots of power droppoage...took forever for it to spool too. )

anyway, so im gonna order a 3" and sell my greddy, and flare up my downpipe...but im curious if i could lose power, or it will just help spool up time and high end. just need a confirmation on this. thanks guys.

 

With 3" your turboo will spool faster no restriction!!!

with my 2.5" open downpipe it spooled very quick, but once i added my 2.5 carsound and the 2.36 it took forever. im popping on a test pipe tos ee if that clears up it, but i cant stand it now that ive felt the open downpipe...so just considering i can sell my exhaust for 350 and get a kteller system for like 250 shipped... thats why im leaning towards the 3"

You answered your own question. It will spool quicker.

Typically, is the powerband just shifted lower, or is there also peak power gained?

You will loose power!! Compared to a 4" exhaust that is..

 

i run a 3" open dp out the side of the front bumper but thats different ive done 3" exhausts of customers cars and they love it

 

4" is Updawg approved, and will make even more power!

 

this is my custom full 3' exhaust...2 resonators coming from 3' downpipe and dumping after rear axle

you guys running resonators or will that hinder performance too much... i used to run a greddy 60mm w/ a test pipe and since turbos make the sound softer, think ill be ok w/ a 3" test pipe and 3" all the way back through an n1? hmm....

 

would running 3inch out the side of the bumper help.........right now i have 3inch dumped out 2 resonators underneith the middle of my car.....

Actually you will loose power with 4" compared to the 3' systems some people above claim to have.

wonder if u can fit midgets in those 3' exhaust systems..

 

where did you find those resonators and how much did they cost

 

would you lose power if you did a 3" side exit DupeTube??if so, what is the best size?

 

Once again folks, larger diameter piping, less restrictions [like cats, resonators, etc], and less length of pipe = greater power.


EXAMPLE:

if you're running a 4" open down pipe with only one 45 degree bend, you will have more power than if you run a full 3" cat back.
