Looking at a used TL Type S. Questions!
I read SOMEWHERE, I don't remember where, that the automatic transmissions in the Type S's have a serious flaw of some sort.
Is this true? The Type S's I've been looking at are in the 40-50K mile range.
Is this something I should worry about?
Anything I should keep an eye out for when looking at a used TL, or any common problem areas I should know about?
I've done a few searches, but I can't seem to come up with anything specific.
TIA!

Last generation TL Type S's have 7 year/100k mi tranny warranty.
People say that the tranny starts to slip w/o any reason... at random times. It's a hit-or-miss. Some people never have any problem... while, others have to get it fixed a couple of times. I would definitely look into getting a '03 TL S... seems to have the tranny problem solved for the most part.
It's a solid car, but the tranny problem keeps it from being an excellent car.
IMO, check it's history (give VIN# to a service dept. at a dealership) and see if it has had any problems.

Thanks for the response.
I wish I could go for the '03, but for me to be able to afford that I'm going to have to wait a while till the price starts dropping a bit.
I guess I'll just proceed with caution.
