who here regrets buying their ep3s'
I kind of do, after seeing what other car manufacturers are bringing to the table in terms of competition...I cannot but help regret getting the ep3. Had it not been for the price that I paid ($12,500 w/ just 75 miles and showroom condtion) I would be kicking myself right now
wow that is cheap. i dont really regret mine. i do wish that it had a k20a2 but you can fix that
. where the hell is everyone getting the swap from? i need to know here and how much. anyways the EP is good considering how much it costs(i paid 15k new). yeah there are other cars out there with more to offer but they are more money.

I will admit that i'm very up and down with mine, but I tend to give up on my cars instead of taking the time to customize and enjoy what I have. This time around I've tried to enjoy customizing it more (in the form of car audio stuff) and it has really been enjoyable. It's just a fun little car to drive, and I hope I continue to enjoy it. 30k miles now too!
nice to see another salt lake member. what is wrong with your EP? my DA is slow, so anything will be an upgrade. hehehe does it not do well on the mtn. roads or canyons? how about the snow around here?

I bet all you dudes are the same group that hated on the EK hatches and then rushed to catch the wagon when potential showed skin..

So instead of the bus you would buy a fast *** NEON that will break apart in 3-5 years?
Bottom line, the EP has been out for just over 2 years.. Give it some time.

The SRT-4 has only been out for about a year...give it time before you make assumptions...who knows you may be right, but only time will tell.
As for the EP, like I said, if I had not gotten such a great price on it, I would not be driving one. I wanted a newer car and didn't have too much money...fortunatly this deal presented itself. I'm not too fond of the styling and Honda really screwed us out on the motor, but for $12.5k I could not have found a better deal on a new car with only 75 miles on the clock. I couldn't see paying anymore than $14k for the car, unless you're just really into the EP. Also I don't really blame Honda for giving us the dumbed down K20 motor, as it only made good business sense in their part with the DC5-S...I just think the MSRP was outrageous considering the cars you could get for borderline $20k.
I'm sure the reason most people avoided the EK's at first was NOT because of the styling (which seems to be one of the major problems with the EP)...but because when they first came out it was simply not a good economical decision as the motors in them were only slightly better than the EG's, something that would undoubtly probably be swapped out anyway. Why buy a new car and then swap the motor? That seems to be the problem with the EP...you really only have two options: 1) Swap the motor; 2) Boost...although you could make an all-motor A3 (as soon as the aftermarket builds up), I just don't know how cost effective that would be.
I don't think many people doubt the potential of the EP3 as they certainly can be quick cars, I do however think they doubt the economics of buying a brand new car and then swaping the motor or boosting. Unless you're just completely money and have the resources to do one of those two things...then thats your thing and all power to you.
Automotive styling isn't THAT big of a big deal to me; however, I know that many car enthusiasts and even Honda loyalists have torn the EP apart based on it's styling, which is another reason the car has not gone over too well. The money involved in just making the EP look even half way decent to some people is kind of up there. The older hatches really only required new wheels and a subtle drop (something that is pretty inexpensive)...the EP needs just the right suspension (somewhat limited by the lack of aftermarket shocks/struts) and wheel combination (which is pricey considering the best EP hatches I've seen have all sported some sort of JDM wheel, al beit Work, Mugen or HOJ/UK wheels), PLUS it needs some new body styling (ie: JDM CTR)...which can run you around $2000, not including paint. I have yet to see an appealing looking EP utilizing the OEM body parts, even with those chin spoilers available...it's just one of those things you can't cover up.
So really the USDM EP3 has two things working against it, performance and styling. So if you're in the market for a new car then why not pay a little more for something that fills in those two areas?

What I can't understand is why there IS so much regret to begin with. Buying a car isn't an undertaking to be taken lightly, yet it seems like a lot of people went to buy their EP's without really thinking it through.
My purchase was sort of forced, since my Jetta was falling apart, but I don't regret the car at all. There are times when I want to go at it with an axe, but then that's my own fault because me and my buddy suck at suspension installation.

I thought about that for a while. Although most people think both cars are ugly, lol, the only four door cars I like are WRX's, EVO8's, and IS300's. To me both were ugly but I always liked Honda and wanted to buy a hatch. It does seem that people purchase cars without researching first. Cars are like computers, they're always being upgraded. The EP can still hold its own.

Honestly...I wouldn't buy the car again. I'm not going to go into details, but several things about it have been a serious PITA that never was a PITA with Honda's older cars.

you're right about that, this car is a lot tougher to do simple things to than my previous hondas were (99 civic, 95 civic).

I love my EP.
Yeah, it IS one of those cars that take getting used to albeit the funky mini-mini-van styling, but it IS appealing to some people. C'mon, of course it isn't selling as well as an HX, DX, EX, etc. because the coupe and sedan will ALWAYS be more "user friendly." We are just a group of people that take to slightly odd things and i guess the EP is one of them.
EG?!?! owners are now taking the K engine and doing that kind of swap b/c the motor is more powerful. It's a new engine line, so of course it's going to be expensive for the aftermarket. Like everyone else is saying and common sense tells ya that it's gonna BE a few years b4 the aftermarket picks up. That's something we all have to deal with.
Yes, some people are loaded and some are not. It just gives us that are not, something to crave for and keep us interested in our cars. Just my .02

i don't really regret buying my EP, but the only thing is that modding your car is a damn expensive hobby.. i want so many things for my car, but i don't have the funds to get it.. so yea, its kinda depressing to know what this car is capable of, but you're just so limited.. soo if were to start all over, i think i would just go with an Element or something, just cause i can't afford modding my EP the way i want it in the end.
I really would like to trade mine in and get out of the honda scene...I want to go with a nissan 300ZX tt or 240sx (sr20det of course) or the almighty toyota corolla/levin ae86... i want to break back in the rwd theme and have around corners. Thats just me of course....but then i would really miss the sound of High redlines...something the ae86 could do...so my eyes are set on a good ae86, think, if i sell my car with 50,000 miles in october estimate ( i have 35k now) i could theoretically get 10-13,000 dollars for it...buy a 7,000 240 with a sr20 swap then dump the rest in to it! Or buy a 2000 AE86 and dump 10,000 into it and have a SUPER toyota that is basically unbreakable....hmmmmm
I love my ep3.
it IS an expensive car to mod b/c you don't have as much used stuff floating around, and the cars are still selling for a bit of money even used.
One thing I do hate is how you have to drop the front suspension subframe to do anything on the damned car. drop tranny, drop motor, etc.
but I can see how it saves shop time at the dealership or for a race team, b/c the whole motor drops out with the subframe, which is nice if you do extensive motor work often. but for the garage mechanic, it kind of sucks b/c you have to lift the car SUPER high to get it out.
