Default Turbo or N/A ? what do you guys think?

Well, here's the problem, I've got a 97 coupe with a b-18c1 swap. I also have skunk2 stage two cams, valve springs, retainers, and a hondata s200. None of this is installed yet. I was planing on droping in ctr pistions and sending the head to have port and polish and new valves instaled. Now all of a sudden, I have enought from my income tax to buy a turbo kit. Say maybe a drag3 or greddy. This is where I can't decide which way to go? should I sell the cams and buy a kit, or stay N/A? My goal is to get it to run 13's on street tires/drag radials. what do you guys think?

Do the boost! I'm tuning mine for N/A and I'm already spending too much. Boost it baby! But don't blow it on the first night! Careful with boosting too much!

If your major goals are in a straight line then boost it, it'll save you a good bit of money if you do it right. If you want to road race/auto-x then I'd say go N/A. But just remember, you dont get cool BOV sounds with N/A .

Sell the N/A ish and build your own kit, tuning it with Hondata.. Since your goal is 13's, just get a 50 trim, you'll have better midrange.

if your goal is only to get thirteens, then you dont need a turbo kit. build your head with those parts you have, and youll already be running 13's. a turbo kit wouldnt be necessary to get to your goal.

Its really a personal matter, do what ever makes you happy. Some people like turbo, some n/a. Some like blondes, some brunettes....

Either way with the set-ups you described you should have enough hp to run 13's easily.

What a completely uninformed first post. Your off to a great start here. Spend some time in the FI forum.

Anyway, back to the topic at hand, yeah you could hit 13's all motor, but boost is just way more fun. Plus if you want more hp, you can get it cheaper and easier than N/A.

yeah what he said, and one more thing i had about $5000 not including the motor and put down like 215whp in a teg that would run prolly 13.1 in the quarter on slicks maybe just maybe it would have been in the 12's cus it was gutted. i finally blew that motor up trying to get more out of it and after that i was gonna boost it but sold the car

now i have an ek and i about have my turbo kit finished so BOOST

i honestly like the quicker acceleration response and better low end of a fully built all motor car. Turbo does pull crazy in top end though, but I just don't like any lag whatsoever. You should experince driving (or riding) in 1 all motor car and 1 turbo car of similiar motors, similiar weight and similar HP and find out for yourself.

Having had a boosted integra and my current hatch I boosted for about two weeks then pulled the turbo off and sold everything, I'm now going all motor! In my situation, I plan to do a little road racing in the future and turbo is not the way to go for that unless you've got a lot of money in it. You can have the best of both worlds speed wise that is. With a strong all motor setup in my hatch, I can have the 12sec time slips and not worry about my engine. I love revving the **** out of the car, IMO a strong all motor car sounds incredible and just a great feeling revving to 9k+. Racing/beating "stronger" car like camaros and TA's and then telling them theres no power adder is nice too, and really does give the car a little more respect.

Bottom line, the power is there in both situations....You can watch a boosted car w/ 300+hp and an all motor car w/ 220hp+ run the same times. It's the sound of the engine that does it for me!

Not to jack your thread, but i always wondered how the NA cars got such fast times compared to turbo guys with alot more HP? Are the all motor guys focusing alot more on traction mods to get equal times with less HP?

I say finish building up your motor and then throw some juice in there and you will hit 13's and have a couple of G's left over.
