Rebuilding axles for High HP!
I did a search and there are many conflicting answers concerning this, so I am going to break it down real easy. I must have talked to about ten different shops today and just about everyone gave me the same info, there is nothing you can do to prevent axle breakage. I was told using stronger parts will prolong the process, but eventually they will go. Here is the deal. What difference are we talking with the $60 Autozone axles (OEM Rebulds?) and a $120 rebuild that uses new parts ( www.raxle.com ) Or the $600 New Stage 2 Axles from www.driveshaftshop.com Do I really need the extras that come along with the different axles? Anyone with experience in axle stuff, give me some knowledge. I would like to do it right, but I don't want to drop a grip just so I can say, I have Stage 2 axles!
If you break prelude axles, you have an INSANE amount of power and traction. What do you have, a 650 hp drag car?
B series axles have a tendency to break when you have 400+ hp and are launching hard on slicks.

breaking axles shouldn't be that hard.
I've heard of one other process. Having them chryogenically treated. Doesn't cost all that much, and supposedly adds about 50% of the life back in them.

Yeah I think all I going to do for now is buy rebuilt ones from autozone. I look at it like this, for the stage 2 from driveshaftusa.com it is 600 per axle. That is 10 Autozone axles. If I am tearing axles up like that, I am sure I will go through tires faster! I guess I need to keep a grip around for tires instead of axles!
The autozone axles have a lifetime warranty. Bring your receipt back when you break them next, and you get a replacement for free.

Thank GOD!!!!!! I thought I was the only one having problems. I got the car in sept 00 and replaced them in june and now they are ruined again. I haven't broke any, the car developes a small vibration and eventually gets worse. Before I had them replaced in june the car shook like hell above 4K. I can feel the slight vibration now and I'm sure it'll get worse when I install my F-max kit. have you goten your kit yet gsr*lude? how did the install go?
cryo treating is some cool stuff....if its done right. if the place REALLY knows what they're doing then cryo treating can dramatically strengthen things. if they haven't perfected it, i wouldn't expect the axles to be able to hold more than 2-3 ft-lbs before breaking....make sure the place knows what they're doing.
