I am in the process of buying a new head for my car, there is a guy that has a hybrid motor laying around and has no clue what engine the head came from. I want to buy it but I cant take it off if Im not gonna, so how can I visually determine a head? Are there any casting marks or letters on the outside? where?

yes there are i.d. castings on the head. look on the exhaust side just above the #2 exh. port, may be inbetween #2 and 3.
