i know this has been covered (magnets)
just trying to find out the best current deal on auto-x magnets. is soloracer.com about the best way to go? girlfriend want's to make valentine's day donation to "the fund"by purchasing me a nice set. thanks for the info....
I bought 3 magnetic sheets from soloracer.com, printed out some big letters on my computer, used them to cut numbers out of the sheets, and spray painted them. Total cost: $30, with one sheet left over. Here's how they turned out:

Alot of people in my region run soloracer.com magnets since they are from my area. I think they look very nice, and I'm going to be ordering a set to replace my $15 ebay numbers before the season starts.

Mike I use(d) them on track. Just tape the leading edge with some racer tape and make sure they are flat.
IMO the best deal is to order a roll of magnet and cut your own.

i also vouch for edecals.com. i emailed them asking to have their touring plate stickers converted into a magnet. cost me about $45 shipped for both magnets.
my magnets are a one piece design which arent going to be as versitile as the soloracer magnets, which use individual numbers. i mainly got these magnets to reduce the chances of them flying off when i goto the track.

Do you guys know of any local places to get magnet sheets? I tried Walmart but they didn't have any. How about Michael's? or Hobby Lobby?
Here's what I did. Go to the local hardware store and buy some"cold air return magnets". They are magnetic sheets that go over the vents it you house. They come in like 8" X 12" sheets and I think I paid $7 for it. Hope this helps.
I got a roll from here http://www.magnetsource.com/. Unfortunatly I can't remember how much I paid for 24"x10'x0.03" roll.
Edecals is good as well... I've bought numbers and letters through them... which were illeagle about 6-7 months later when the SCCA changed its rules about multicolorded numbers....

Be careful what magnets you use...my homemade magnets (made from the magnetic vent covers found at Home Depot) were fine for auto-cross speeds, but they flew off at my first session at Pocono

I heard that if you cut the magnets at an angle, you shouldn't have a problem with magnets flying off. Cuts down on drag, less wind resistance

I ran with 6 12" tall magnetic numbers made from my local arts & crafts store, and they stayed on pretty well up to 110 or so mph at Lime Rock. Maybe my car is really magnetic?
michaels sells sheets of magnet. i bought a sheet of 2' x 1' in white for $10 and put my subaru challenge door number on it. one of the sheets did fly off when evan was driving my car at summit last nov. but i think that was because i halfed assed the tape on the leading edge on that side.

Autox, they work fine.
Track, they can and often do blow off. You can minimize the chances of this happening by using a square panels and taping the leading edges.
Or use painters tape (keep the car waxed and the tape peels right off).
