Tow Vehicle options: 2000 Montero Sport... Frontier?
Just wondering if either of these vehicles is up to the task of towing...
it would tow a single axle trailer with a 2100lb CRX on top of it.
the Montero Sport is rated at 5000lbs max.
the Frontier is the same.

OK I can give you some real world impressions...
I tow with a supercharged Xterra (same as Frontier) and it tows adequately at its 5000 lb. maximum. Keep in mind Nissan rates both the s/c and standard V6 Xterra at the same towing limit. This may be the same case with the Frontier.
That being said I would not suggest the non supecharged version. I think it will be underpowered. It tows beautifully with excellent road manners. It is far nice to tow with than the V8 Mercury Mountaineer it replaced.
I bought the Xterra because I did not want a truck (pick-up), but wanted a nice SUV that looks great (in my opinion). And the wife likes it. Had I been able to buy a truck for towing purposes only I would have chosen something less expensive and more powerful.
If you like the Frontier, and will be driving it more than the 12 - 15 days a year you will be towing with it, you will be happy with it.

Many of the smaller trucks have the power now days to pull, but keep in mind there is more to towing then just pulling. You need to be able to stop and have control (like on windy days). I know the Montero Sport brakes would not be up for the job, your trailer would need electric brakes. The Montero Sport is based on the Mighty Max pickup chassis and suspension. The Montero Sport is a great ride but i am not sure of this application for it.
