Default Got a couple of questions

Ok guys heres the story. I decided to build a D for turbo for 3 reasons.

A) Tired of everyone saying D's are pointless, and I need to swap a B series in

B) At the time I already had a D series turbo kit (just sold the mani and turbo to fund the build up)

c) For what I would pay for a low model B series I can have a fully built D series

Well I traded my std mani and TDO5 turbo for a Y8 port and polished head, oversized valves, new dual valve springs, and new valve retainers. Today my Eagle H beam rods came. So now all I need is pistons. Now here are the questions.

1) I did a conversion calculator I found on h-tech and it said a D16A6 witha Y8 head using A6 pistons raised the C/r to like 10:1. So if I use 8.5:1 compression pistons what will that put me at? Should I just use Y8 pistons?

2) I have a guy with a D16Y7 block for sale. With no crank, wanting $50 shipped. Is this a decent deal?

3) Do I really need to resleeve the block for turbo? What are the factory sleeves good for? I will be running no more than 15 psi when at the track. Where is a good place to get them? I found them by LA sleeves for $20 a piece. I don't know if they are stock replacement or not, for $20 a piece I think they are.

4) Anyone have a A6 block for sale or they want to get rid of? Kinda short on cash right now. Any help would be appreciated.

5) Will any D series intake mani fit the Y8 head or does it have to be a Y8?

6) Are all adjustable cam gears the same or should the e-bay ones work just fine?

Thanks, Doug

D series has capable of going fast but not as fast as B, H or K series motors...

Default Re: Got a couple of questions (Doug294)

1) d16a6 block/pistons, d16y8 HG, y8 head = 10.33:1
same as above but with y8 pistons = 9.6:1
same as above but with z6 pistons = 9.45:1

8.5:1 compression y8 pistons will give you 8.5:1 in a d16a6 block as long as you use the y8 head.

2) depends on if you can find a whole engine at the junkyard for $70.

3) not too sure on this one. i remember reading a post on http://www.theoldone.com/forum that talked about if going over 75.5mm that sleeving is required...but i cant remember if that was for n/a or for boost applications. i looked and cant find it now.

4) no

5) any d series 88+ except the d16a1...as far as i have read. your best bet would probably be a y8 or z6 manifold.

6) no idea... i spent the extra money for the jg/edelbrock one just for peace of mind.
