Default SOHC TURBO vs DOHC debate at work, please all SOHC turbo guys..HELP

Ok so i have this friend at work who insists he knows more about hondas & acuras then i do. I say BS right off and ask him an easy Q. What does vtec stand for, His very words were "I dont know". Then it turned into him knowing how to make my hatch fast and so on. The main point is he says it is not possible to make a SOHC turbo hatchback (96-99) run 13s all day with a FULLY stock internal motor. He believes doing a motor swap will be the only way to hit 13s. Please just post your mods, timeslips, whatever............so i can show him that STOCK TURBO SOHC motors can easily do 13s.

I'm on the DOHC bandwagon, but i'm pretty sure there are peeps on this board hitting 13's on a SOHC.

<-- slowly believing in SOHC power

sure, its possible to run 13's with a D series SOHC motor, but i dont think its worth it. But i'm not sure about keeping the bottom end stock, the rods on those motors suck. The best way is to go with a b16 DOHC. They are cheap, and you can keep the stock block and run 12's.

11's have been done on stock internal D's. 13's are easy. Examples on THIS board: Mista Bone, Singlecam Screamer, BoostedED9, and many others. BoostedED9 made 302whp on a stock block and hit high 11's with boost. Mista Bone 13.02 on a 75 shot, Singlecam Screamer 12.8 with a 60 shot. All stock internals. Tell your friend he is full of ****.

D's are good if you're looking for low horsepower (around 200-300) for the price. Also, it's a cheaper engine so if it blows up.....you can get one for 400-500 compared to 2000-3000 for a new B block. D's are also a little lighter than the B's which gives it a small advantage in my mind too. To the original questions. Ill (hopefully) be making high 13 passes (13.9) in my my stripped sol this summer. Ill be posting numbers in the spring/summer. That's on street tires.

i ran a 13.8 on 9psi of boost with a completely stock z6 in a 94 coupe. ~piston rings went in the 4th cylinder though like a month after. 13's are pretty easy for a sohc w/boost 12's are going to be harder esp in a coupe.

How much boost? You're setup is very similar to what mine will be.

oh yeah, ill be rolling in a 00 coupe with a full interior and system. if i dont hit that 14 second run...then u will hear my rollin down the strip

it's possible with either a B or a D. Just gotta make sure it's tuned to keep the power consistent. Your friend's a tool. I was doing 13's on a stock block and now I'm doing 13's on a built block with a DOHC ZC which counts as a D.

I fall into that not quite sure what it is engine because, it has been repeatedly mistaken for a b18. It's a D, the power shows similar to a D. I like D series engines. If I kill this one, it's SOHC vtec, and I'm gonna boost the **** out of it.
