Serious Question - Anyone know how a Drag Track is built ?
Reason: My only local track is an old airport landing strip. The prep the staging area some, but grip sux and times are suffering here...always have.
We are trying to petition the gov't to repave, but no dice. Locals don't know the cost of doing it privately... but I'm curious. How would one convert basically a concrete floor to give decent grip for street cars (although we also have race cars, rails and the like dragging there too)
We've had some seriously fast cars come out of here (Trinidad... eg: Ryan Garcia/SKF Lancer), but the pros can't run here as the track is crap....
I know a track is designed by a professional builder, but any insight would be helpful.
The track surface is probably fine, but the street tires and what not of people using the track peel up the rubber where you need at the start line. Most local tracks are like this because as everyone knows street tires destroy the starting line at events.

I don't understand what you posted....
The surface of this tract is concrete.

Go to the Drag Racing link on the menu on the top and then once one the drag racing page scroll all the way done you will see a link to a Before and after gallery of the track.

I believe concrete is the best surface to drag race on if Im correct. A lot of rubber on the surface and then on top of that some VHT Trackbite...at our track we use a tractor that sprays the VHT on to the surface..its not fun to get on your hands and more doesnt always mean better...check out this link and go 3/4 the way down the page...youll see what this VHT stuff is that Im talking about

EDIT: For a track, I think we usually prep til about 1000 ft.this stuff isnt cheap and youll see they want $48 for a gallon
..our sprayer uses the 55 gallon of course

the best tracks in the country are concrete for the first 330'-660', so concrete is what you need, like previously said, you will never have good traction on a track that is always raced on with street tires!
