Analysis of rear cabin strut bracing - best combo? ie. G-Bar/EM-Racing
I am looking for a nice setup for the rear cabin as far as strut bars and such goes, but I wanted to go a step further w/o getting a roll cage.
This thread is meant for debate and to see if what I am saying is incorrect or correct heh.
There is 2 choices right now that I know of that offer the complete package for a 94+ DC2 (by all means offer other suggestions if you have them)
One is http://www.lokarmotorsports.com G-BAR system.
1. Once again correct me if im wrong - if you see in the picture their strut bar has an angle like this for its connection /=== \ I thought creating angles (45 then 90)like this instead of straight link makes a loss of rigidity --
2. I do like the ability to keep the rear seats ...
3. Will this design really keep flex at a minimum?
4. Asked how much it retails for ... $599

Second option i have is the EM-Racing one.

1. Quality design and they have researched which design and layout works better and such .... unlike cusco
2. I have no clue if it clears the rear seats.... anyone know ?
3. Price is 385 for the set above
4. They have an "easy snap" idea which allows quick take off of the c-pillar bar - just in case i need more room.
im not in NHRA so i dont need it to pass regulation or whatever = also if you guys know any others selling setups like this please post.
But whats better for the buck ? I think i would rather take the $200 hit and go w/ em-racing even if it can't clear the rear seats (does it?) - But im wondering what you guys have had with hands on experiences - thought i would post here because you guys are probably the suspension masters.

You don't need either of these "systems" for a street driven car... for a track car you need a 6 point cage or more depending on the rules for the given series.
IBTL, yo.
christian- who's feels like he's answered a question very similar to this once already tonight...

problem with a 6point roll cage isnt really economical for me since i still want rear seats and even lay back in my seats lol

Sorry i bothered you jeez - i dont care how it looks as long as its functional and serves to the things i do everyday as a daily driven car.

I believe what everyone will say is: save the money, buy some tires, and spend a season autocrossing. It will make you much, much faster than any bars, I promise.
well the first one doesn't seem like you can recline your seat, or use the rear seat
I see bracing going from the c pillar bar to the b pillars
the second choice would probably suit your needs
What is the purpose of this? Just for rigidity? have you considered maybe just a 4 point bar with removable harness bar and cross brace? that way you can still use the rear seats, and put the additional bar in when u go to the track
both of those systems seem to be more for show , than functional

both of those are complete overkill , its an independent rear suspension car , all you really want to do is get rid of deflection where the control arms pick up and maintain suspension geometry , what do you car how stiff the hatch is ?
anything past the UCA points is just along for the ride anyway.

Why?

Don't bother with the jungle gym.

None of these bars do anything.
>>2. I do like the ability to keep the rear seats<<
Why? So your rear occupants have something to smash their heads against?
3. Will this design really keep flex at a minimum?
If it's not a track car, then reducing flex (or it's consideration) is a moot point. Even then roll cages aren't installed, per se, to reduce flex. They're installed to save your life, and b/c they're mandated by the rules; the fact that they do, or can, reduce chassis flex is a welcome bonus.

so just a strut bar will get rid of the horrible flex i have when i got up the driveway and around cars - all this is not neccesary?
i agree that those things are more for show...
you say you want to retain the rear set,but would you really want anybody riding back there with all those bars going everywhere?can you imagine what would happen to those back passengers in a wreck?
i say get a street rollbar if you really want something.

What horrible "flex" are you reffering to? Going "up driveways," and "around cars" doesn't offer much information.

Well, if you're being sensible, then "flex" as you percieve it, is not what you're feeling. If you're cannonballing "the canyons" then you're mistaking body roll for chassis flex.
I don't think you should go into any detail re: your canyon carving.
Don't buy the jungle gym.
See ya.

So it doesnt belong in this forum.
None of those "barz" will provide any sort of increase in the strength of the structure of the vehicle. Period. The EM Racing bars even have rod ends at the ends of the bars, so even if the chassis was deflecting a significant amount there, the bars would just move right along with it.
Will the chassis flex when you jack it up onto one wheel or go up a steep driveway? Sure... but bracing that area of the car will have absolutely no effect on performance where it matters - in the suspension. I suggest you take a hard look at how a honda unibody is assembled before you assume a brace here or a brace there will increase the strength of the structure.
I will leave this open until tomorrow, and hopefully there will be more positive responses and something to learn from.

Spend the money on an autocross school or HPDE on a real track instead.

so basically what you are saying is that you think you need the rear of your street car needs to be as stiff as having a rollcage, but you still want to "lay down" your front seats and keep your back seats. I hope you wouldn't put passengers in the back of a car with those bars in it.

Excuse me .RJ but YOU ARE WRONG! My barz reduce chassis flex so much I can really feel it when I ride my bump stops. Last night I was over at In-and-Out and the drive through guy was all "werd does some dope barz" and I was all "fo sho". I was thinking I can fit a few more barz but then I was thinking I need more NAWZ! Don't try and tell me I'm in the wrong forum because this is a race car for realz. Why else would I have harnessz and saftey barz? I plan on drag/autocross/HPED/Honda Challenge my car, word up.

hahaha. . . that reminded me of this kid that tried getting my friend to sell his AE86 corolla to him. "yo man, I want to buy your car. I want to road rally race it in the SCA. It's rear wheel drive, good for road rally and drift race. It's good for a racecar because the body is real clean. I'll give you $4000 cash plus my integra for it."
haha. . .sucker.
