What's cookin'?
Hey like I'm going to Roebling Road for this Comp. License Permit and well the subject of food has come up recently. For the most part I can eat pretty much anything, but I'm traveling with my co-financeer (wife) and she's slightly vegetarian. Not only that but she's Italian, so she's always planning the next meal.
So, now that I've given you way too much info... what do you folks who spend a weekend at a time road racing do for food? Will this double school have food on site, or will you doodz be bar-b-queing?
I hear Southern Folk make some excellent "barbque".

Track food is less the gourmet, though around some tracks you can get lucky. RRR is just ~30 min away from Savannah. Great southern and low country food as well as sea food. Near the track in Pooler GA, there ain't chit to eat other then fast food and chain food. Applebee's and Cracker Barrel are 2 places I remember.
Now .. CMP is much better story. Pearl's, Gus', etc ....

Not much a bbq eater (must be the years in a bbq restaurant at an early age) but the bbq salad gets alot of raves at the track. For veggi needs, you'll be somewhat limited at the track to muffins, bananas, other assorted fruits and sweet snacks. In Savannah proper, you should not have a problem finding whatever you'd like to eat - some very good eats down near the water. Closer in, there is a pretty not-too-bad pizza place on I-80 (I forgot the name
) on your left heading back to I95 from the track. There at 95/80 (about 8 miles from the track) there's a Cracker Barrel and a few smaller restaurants on the way.
Remember that you can only leave RRR when they close down the track (prolly every other or more run groups) so it takes a bit more planning for the "going out to lunch."

Potted meat? Sweet! I always wanted to have luncheon meat laced with marijuana! All the protein and THC a man could need! Does no frills mean no stems?

We were considering bringing one of those little propane burner thingies and cookin' some veggi dogs.
So is that dog food anything like Spam?
(cried laughing)... my wife got a kick out of that too. Always good to allow the finaceer a chance to chuckle before upping the credit cards.

If ya like seafood, check out Shell House off I-95. I forget the exit, maybe one or two south of RR (Pooler). My father in law lives there and we make him take us every time we visit
. Go for The Platter and some Moon River beer. Wear pants with an elastic waist band.

Getting in and out of the Roebling paddock is work as phatty mentioned, and there isn't much to eat in the area anyway. The paddock food is OK, but if you have diet specifics I'd play it safe and pack your own fuud.
We're eating cheapo this weekend. Ham and turkey sammiches for lunch, BYOB, and cheap fast foods for dinner.
Normally we like to eat out and drink well on race weekends, but a busted water heater, busted pool pump, busted HVAC, and a kid that needed new glasses already in 2004 has dictated that we "eat cheap" on this one.
So anyone in the same money hugging position can dine with us this weekend as we'll be skipping the trips to Savannah, the Shell House and even Hooters.
Scott, looking forward to $6 Burgers at the Pooler Hardees.
