Car has'nt started in 2 days (alternator, distributor, timing!?)
You guys seem to be pretty experienced. Thought I might ask you. I was driving my car home from the gym sunday night and as i was going about 20mph to a stoplight, the car just dies. No noises really, it just dies flat out. The only noise it makes is a humming sound when i try to start it, and i think i've tried too start it too much so now the battery is dying. It makes a humming sound, and there is no sparking from the plugs. Right before i left the gym i did hear a funny noise as i was GOING TO THE GYM so i popped it and at 3k rpm the engine seemed significantly louder in the area of the timing belt and once at about 3,200k it was fine again, and at 2,800k it's ok too. Lets see what else. We tried to jump the car too and there was no change in noises. i pulled the distributor cap and the little thing that is supposed to turn to make sparks does'nt turn also. What do you all think!?!? Thank you! (PS -- pleeeeassse don't tell me i snapped my timing belt!!!)
Not to be a dick, but I'm finding it really hard to think of any way to help you out with this. You haven't said what kind of car you're talking about...and you need to be more descriptive in the way you're describing the sound when you try to start the car. As for the "rotor" in the distributor, it won't turn freely by itself unless the distributor is disconnected from the motor. In that case, do NOT try to turn it. If you can, have someone who knows what they are doing look at your motor. They should be able to tell what's ailing your car. Good luck with that
