does MPFI = more power?? please help
Just a quick question, if i do an MPFI conversion on my D15B(currently dual carb, SOHC), will it give me more power?? numbers if available.
And what about a V-TEC head, can i just bolt one up to get more power or is it more complicated than that...
could i leave the carbs and just bolt on the Vtec head? will that work? Power?
Would it just be cheaper to do an engine swap?
Cheers

if you are actually carbed, you're looking at a full fuel injection conversion, not just a dpfi to mpfi. That's a lot of work and expense.
You might be better off looking at carb upgrades...I'm a big fan of Weber conversions.

Where can i get info on weber conversions? has anyone here done any?
just cos i was told that cos of the carbs in the civic arent exactly conventional carbs that just wacking bigger carbs on there wont work.. :/
What exactly is a mini-me conversion? is it a dpfi - mpfi conversion? engine swap? head swap? ...

A lot of people are brainwashed to believe fuel injection is ALWAYS better.
Its fuel delivery is more consistent, more reliable across environmental differences and mpg are can be better...it gives it all.
A carb can be tuned for outright power or fuel economy, but not much of both.
Two race cars, one carb'd and one fuel injected...there is no clear winner.
Carbs can be reliable...Honda depended on them for years and still has a sterling reputation.
Look for a pair of weber sidedrafts if you want the most peak horsepower. If you've got dual carbs, this is the same layout, just performance oriented.
But I like the 32/36 DGEV and 38 DGES downdrafts. They can be adapted to the 88-91 DX intake manifolds. Good low end torque, easy to tune and maintain. The 38 can almost touch the sidedrafts in power but not quite.
Just "wacking" bigger carbs on there won't work. Proper tuning is very important to making a carb powerful and reliable. The prebox sets can get you close but you will have to fine tune.
Check out this book...it taught me a lot.

Forget mini-me unless you're going full fuel injection...it's not intended for a carb'd car.

Heres what to do, go find yourself a set of webers, go to exospeed get a mild cam, do a little port and polish and then get the carbs dialed in...and you will have a fun little street motor.
Im building a Dseries with carbs right now..im looking for 200hp to the wheels

it would be interesting to see if a vtec head could work with carbs. i mean that b16 head worked with the ITBs so its not that far a stretch. it would raise compression and to activate vtec you would need to wire it up to a switch. then you could in turn wire that switch up so it turns on some kind of timing advance unit. for the extra fuel you could use a resistor in the intake air temperature sensor circuit like jackson racing does for the supercharger. what else am i missing. pull the oil jet if you have one? the carbs should bolt up since its all D series. and if you cant get it to work just run without vtec till u can. God damn i need to get a carbd honda and a vtec head.

a buddy of mines has a Y8head with intake manifold, sensors and all,
i think he said he wanted 150 for head and 50 for manifold
so 200 for all
