axle quiz for you axle know-it-alls.
Hey, okay a couple quick questions. Do the GSR and the LS use the same axles? Do automatic axles differ from mannual axles? And last but not least, I am putting an LS motor into my hatch from an RS, which I'm not sure if it has ABS or not. I am putting together the swap and looking to buy LS axles, and the motor had ABS, my hatch does not. Does this matter in the long run? If you get all these right you win. Thanks for your help.

post something useful.
I'm pretty sure you can use ABS axles in a car that does not have it. It shouldn't be a big deal. All Integra axles were the same, except for the ABS-equipped cars (most of them) had a toothed ring on the outboard joint which was read by a sensor on the back of the hub. The RS did not come w/ ABS, however.

so if i get a motor out of an RS that does not have abs and is a 5 speed, and use LS axels that had abs that was an automatic, in a hatch that does NOT have abs but is a five speed i should be a-okay? by the way...best most complicated question i have ever seen on honda-tech if i do say so myself

The axles (halfshafts) for autos and manuals are identical. However, the INTERMEDIATE SHAFT (the axle in between the two halfshafts), is DIFFERENT!!! I did an automatic to manual swap on my '94 LS...and although the auto and manual LOOK identical, the automatic is actually a little wider than the manual. Just wide enough to make it impossible to bolt on to the engine block. If you need one, just grab one from your local junkyard.

i dunno...it's hard to tell exactly what you're doing from your description. Are you putting a manual LS engine into your auto hatch? vice versa???

im putting a manual ls engine into my manual hatch, but i dont know if the axles are from a manual or an automatic...i didn't know if it mattered or not.

Well the halfshaft should come w/ the engine I would think, and it already has the manual tranny on it too right? So just use any 3rd gen Integra axles.

yes...if the LS engine already has the tranny connected to it, everything's fine. If everything's manual, there shouldn't be a problem...just make sure, like PatrickGSR said, that all the axles (halfshafts and intermediate shaft) are for a 3rd gen teg. You can't use the axles from your hatch.
