Default OT: Low idle (stalls)

Sorry to bother with a non RR/AX question but this has been getting worse and searching hasn't been much help.

Problem: Most often after filling the tank, but other times as well, I will start the car and it immediately stalls. The only solution seems to me to hold down the throttle a little to keep the revs up. After holding the revs up for a few min I can let go and the car seems to idle as normal. Sometimes there is a strong gas smell but not always.

I already changed the fuel filter but the problem persists. I'm thinking that perhaps the fuel pump should be replaced?

Disconnect the EVAP purge system, just disconnect the sensor on the firewall that opens that connects the intake manifold with the EVAP purge canister. I think that's your problem...I had something similar and that's what I've had to do to correct the problem.

That's my problem too but it's because I'm OBDI/kenji ECU'd now. I thought this was a OBDII -> OBDI issue.

It has something to do with how and when the EVAP purge system is energized, if I remember correctly the fuel tank is pressurized on the OBDII systems, which might be one of the causes of the problem...not sure.

Bingo! Austin posted the "fix".

Disconnect the EVAP purge like Austin mentioned. I still need to do that. I keep on forgetting since I rarely drive the car. Of course, that doesn't help me in anyway since I've been too lazy to go get the car tuned.

Is it bad to let the car start up with the idle problem?

I have the same problem but it has only died on me twice, once it warms up everything is fine, so I have not bothered to unplug it.

UPDATE:

I unpluged it two days ago and the stalling hasn't happened again. The car even sounds smoother when warming up in the morning. Honda-Tech ownz again

Is there a downside to disconnecting that purge unit? I think it has to do with emissions correct? I have a Hondata system with the OBD-I ecu and I too have experienced this on occasion .

I take it as a side effect to the OBD1 conversion, pretty much like bumpy ride due to stiff springs.

Maybe Kenji can do something about it in his program.....

I'm not sure if this is helpful, but I'll post anyways.

I have an OBD-II B20b that used to stall in the morning...so I changed the plugs, added a can of injector cleaner, and I haven't had the problem since (about a month ago). Then again, it hasn't dropped below 20 degrees recently, so maybe it was just a coincidence...
