Default chassis/suspension 101 for a rookie

Hi, i need to know what works and what does'nt.
Should your rear springs be really hard?
How should your front coilovers be set,low or middle, hard or soft?
Do limiting straps work?
Does lifting the rear transfer more weight over the front?

Any help would be appreciated guys,
Told you i'm a rookie, ghetto rookie at that.
