I'll give an amen to that...thats what i have right now...PERRRRRRTY!

Of course it always depends on what your definition of "good" is. Good for highway crusing? 1/4 mile times? etc...

Good, luck!

I always was under the impression the JDM YS1 w/lsd was the best cable tranny ever made for the b series engines. Unlike the Y1, the syncor's were not known to have as many issues to wearing out prematurely. Also, all parts for the Ys1 can be purchased over the counter in America, where the Y1 internals have to be brought in overseas. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I still like how short the S1 is.
But then again, I'm an idiot.

There's a JDM S1 and USDM S1. This is why I hate it when people use chassis codes to talk about transmissions. You can say S80 but that could be a variety of gear ratios. People should just talk about gear ratios.

How is the J1, does it just suck or what? cause i just sold my YS1 for $600 + s&h to some dude on ebay, it was a mint condition tranny that didnt have a spec of dirt on it. I know 600 is a lot for a tranny and thats why i love ebay for suckers. And it didnt even have LSD in it. And i was 100% truthful with my listing. So How is the J1 tranny in gears and such???

*clicks ruby slippers*
I wish honda made more sense when naming its trannies.
PS I'd like a YS1 (simply because I can buy the parts from a local dealership), but now that you can put hydro trannies in for minimal cost I'd have to say the JDM itr tranny is probably the best

Ya, i've seen the tranny chart many times. If you look at the YS1 listing you'll see the 1st gear is even shorter than the JDM S1, and the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th gears are the same as both the JDM S1, and the ITR gearboxes. The YS1 has a better 5th gear for the hiway too.
I own both a USDM 93 GSR YS1 non lsd (not available), and the rare JDM YS1 with lsd, and i belive the only difference between the two is the diff itself.

Notice how I stated "I like how short it is." right before I said I was an idiot. For you Tranny ***** out there, I'm referring to the one with the 4.40 final ratio... duh.

My point was made for the kids who don't know. I don't want someone trying to buy a JDM S1 because it has shorter gears but getting the USDM S1.

Thanks that chart helped out alot. Just wondering after looking at the chart that the 96-97 Type R's have the same gear ratios as a JDM J1 tranny So im taking it that a JDM J1 Tranny will be good to run on the streets and at the track?

I don't know if I'd trust that chart. It says the 90-93 LS transmissions had a 4.40 final drive.

But yes, the JDM S1/J1 is a great choice for the track. However, you're going to be up around 4,000 rpm at highway speeds.

JDM S1 owns! It makes up for the no-torque B16 I have. It will be even better when I finally get my LS/VTEC built

Also gonna install my LS fifth for the highway

J1 tranny owner here.

whew it shure is a high strung tranny.
around town I skip thru the gears sometimes 1~~3rd~~5th
and it accelerates fine.
w/195/60/14's the rpm at 70 is 4k rpm 80 is right under 5k rpm.

cruising around town in 5th gear at 30-35 mph will just make you do a double take sometimes.

Open a case, and the YS1 is the hands down, no contest winner! The J1/S1/Y1 shift mehcanisms are all similiar in design to a D series, with weaker forks and a bulkier design. Also everything is smaller and weaker. Look in the YS1 and it is quite similiar to the Hydro tranny's and shares many parts. As for gearing, I also prefer the YS1 over any of the rest, always pull out on people off the line. If that's not an option, then a Hydro B16 trans is essentialy the same.

Short version *YS1*

Because some of them did.

The '90-91 A1 tranny had a 4.40:1 FD.

Yes, the best cable trans is the YS1 because you can use hydro transmission LSDs and FDs in them.

i say get a hydro conversion kit, run the JDM ITR tranny w/ the 4.7xx FD that would be the best (unless you want boost)
