BaseMap good enough to drive to tuners?
Hi all, im from the uk and im in the process of turboing my 1995 prelude, i've been reading Honda-Tech for over a year now and now im finally going to boost i got one question.
When i get everything hooked up, hondata, turbo, piping, feeds, intercooler etc... will the basemap of the hondata allow me to drive the car to the tuners? (a good 200 miles) or do you think it would be a wise investment to get the rom editor, data log and do a basic tune myself then take it down or do it all myself? Hondata tuners are rare in england, turbo ludes are even rarer so not easy to find the all knowing tuner!
Thanks in advance.

most of the time, you can call the tuner and have them burn a copy of the tuned map that a close resemblance to your setup. That to me is a btter base map than a pure map you make in rom editor.
Depending on how long the drive is, base map would be good if it's around town and not boosting

200 miles, I would have the tuner burn you a chip like stan said. They usually will have something similar to you Turbo setup. I wouldn't want to drive 200 miles on a basemap, but whatever you do stay in vacuum.
Or you can baby the car on the stock ecu and injectors.. I did this for about 3 weeks, then we installed the injectors and soldered the jumper in at the tuners.
Please remember, a BASE map is just that. There should be absoutley NO boosting on a basemap. If the map is done properly or a duplicate map of someone with a smiliar setup, you should be fine. Gas mileage will more than likey suck ***, but it should get you there. There are many tuners on this board that migt be able to help ya out.
just have everything ready and when u get to the tunners, do the injectors and the hondata and obd 2 to obd 1 harneing kit there, should take like 20 mins max, mad parking lot work yo
Are there any recomended Hondata tuners that i can buy the hondata unit from in the US that has a variety of maps to choose from?
I don't know of any preludes in the uk running hondata, only civic type R's and they are minimal, one 4th Gen lude is running a greddy piggyback, there are 2 5th gen with drag kits that i know of and possibly a few more but i can virtually guarantee there are less than 10 boosted ludes in the UK, thats why i want to buy from the US as you are all knowing on this subject!

You can probably get them to send you the base map out of the kindness of their hearts, if you ask nicely.
Personally I think your best bet is to use stock injectors and stock ecu to drive to the tuners. A basemap would be fine for a short drive with low revs, but you will no doubt be taking the motorway to get to the tuners.... and I wouldn't feel safe driving a basemap on thie highway.
Be aware that if you do use the basemap, you may not make it 200 miles on one tank of petrol.

its a touchy subject, i have made basemaps that i have driven on for a week and no probs. i made a new map for my new set up a few weeks ago and it wouldnt idle at all . i thought it was rich as hell but it was really lean when we put thew wideband on it . I had to have someone come down and help me with the maps to even get it to idle safely and run low rpm ranges safely. its really hit or miss.
