Possible brake upgrade for CRX VTEC without breaking the bank ?
Alright guys, here's the deal: I have the CRX mentioned in my sig. (obviously
), which has 175HP but still the stock brake setup. I know from experience that the brake setups of the VTEC Civics and CRXs are a) inadequate, b) prone to fading VERY fast, not to mention c) prone to rotor warp equally quickly.
So, since I'm going to be putting my CRX into a circuit in the next month or so, I would like to be able to brake after the first 2 laps
. What is a quick and easy way to upgrade the brakes ? And I'm not talking about just changing the pads and installing SS brake lines here, NOR am I talking about buying complete Brembo or Mugen setups here. Something in between, like -possibly- brakes from Accords (I've read about the NSX upgrade, but I wouldnt be able to find NSX calipers in Europe anyway), or a particularly good rotor/pads combination.
So, any good suggestions ? Simple bolt-ons suggestions would be preferable of course.....

I'm guessing I will have to register for this ? There is no "demo" or "browser" mode ?

you can register - we don't bite!
however

Parts used were
Rover 623gsi single piston calipers
Rover ZS180 discs
2mm spacers
623 pads
The calipers are a perfect fit- but they need a 2mm spacer between the carrier and the caliper - this places the caliper in the correct position as the ZS discs have a 2mm difference in offset
the caliper itself needs a quick "clean" with an angle grinder - as the 623 discs are 2mm thinner than the ZS discs and could conceivably just "touch" if driven hard or overheated. Just take a very small amount from the caliper where the disk may contact.
This fits perfectly ! - and will fit under Rover 15" alloys with no clearance problems
The Calipers bolt up using the original bolts, and the ZS disks look much much bigger then the std items. As a bonus the 623 pads are much larger than the std CRX pads - so there is a much better surface area contacting the disk.
The 623 calipers work, as do the 620ti, some 620 autos come with the 282mm discs too - but I looked at 3 over the weekend - and they were all 262mm
the Rover 827 calipers appear to be the same - I just need to check the fit!
COSTS
Calipers S/H £30
Disks (new from Rover) £50
spacers £2
Brake fluid £3
new pads £10-£60</TD></TR></TABLE>
other rover calipers don't require the spacers

Hey,
who's got more info about this?
Can I use the ZS180 disc with legend 2-piston calipers?
I've got a EDM crx vtec.
thanks,
marc

Hey man easy and cheap; 1990 integra front knuckles (way bigger rotors and pads), any civic rear trailing arm disk set-up til 1995 will bolt in, 1988 prelude Si Master cylinder (15/16" diameter embossed on side) or 1997 integra type-r master cylinder and booster (1" embossed on m/c) depending on what you can find or afford, last a proportioning valve from any 4wheel disk honda.
You can do all of this yourself then go get an alignment and you are readly to...stop.This is an all honda parts brake upgrade, most of which you can pick up at a junkyard I did this with the prelude m/c my rex stops on a dime and I was out $500 with stainless lines, new pads and new slotted rotors all around now she stops like a champ. hope this is what you were looking for, and have fun on the track.
