Comptech Ice Box
Hey, does anyone run one??
I'm a little weary of running an open filter CAI (we get lots of rain, with lots of pretty big puddles), so this seems like a good alternative.......
Any opinions or testamonials??
Thanks

First thing you should do is search. There are a whole lot of threads about the Icebox.
However, I've been running one for the past year. I've been very happy with the product and like that it's quiet. The only problem I have with the Icebox is that the lid doesn't always close right. I also had a problem with one of the mounting brackets.
Lastly, you don't need to get the Comptech SRI and can use your stock intake arm.

The Comptech SRI is just for show. You can actually use your rubber intake arm and the stock paper filter, or opt for an aftermarket K&N drop-in or Comptech's foam filter.
The Icebox is a great intake -- essentially an imitation of the $650 Mugen intake.
(BTW, don't try to 'make your own Icebox'...dyno tests were done and all the hackjob versions didn't really do much over stock, let alone compete with the Icebox)

Were these tests done on heavily modded r's, or gsr's with basic bolt-on's? I would like to see........will go search now.

FROM ME!!!!!!!
I HAVE A BRAND NEW ICEBOX LOOKING FOR A NEW OWNER. NEVER USED, NEVER INSTALLED, ORDERED DIRECTLY FROM COMPTECH. IT PROVIDES BETTER THROTTLE RESPONSE AND MID-RANGE THAN AEM, PLUS YOU'LL NEVER HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT HYDRO-LOCK.

No gains whatsoever, just comptechs way of ripping us off. Somewhere in the Type R archives is a dyno plot of an Icebox w/ stock intake arm putting up the same exact #'s (better midrange) than the $650 mugen intake
$160 icebox vs. $650 mugen..............
1 Icebox please

I love my Icebox, I had an AEM and would never go back. I had a problem with the bottom pipe coming off on the Ice Box, then I realized the person who installed it put the mounting bracket on backwards now it's perfect. And I noticed just last week that he also didn't close the box right either, he put the filter inside the box and closed the lid over it and there was an opening, I put the lip of the filter on the lip of the box and now it's got a perfect seal and is quieter.

ehh..i just installed the ice box..........truthfully...........gains are minimal compared to the aem cai.........its definately quieter, but according to my butt dyno, the power gain was minimal. It seems like a good design though!
