And? What's the difference? is the S2000 filter much bigger? Does it filter better?
What's so great about using the S2000 filter.. someone please fill me in.

Don't know what the benefits would be, but they cost 2x as much.

AFAIK most OEM Honda oil filters are made by FRAM (or some other low quality brand name), and FRAM = crap. Toyo Roki is a higher quality, better designed oil filter.

Hope that review is convincing enough for you. But to anyone who is a cheapskate and doesn't care what kind of oil, filter or gas is put into your car, dont even bother.

Says in the article that Honda of Japan has TWO suppliers of oil filters, Tennex and Toyo Roki. The old one and the ones pictured on the previous link I provided are Tennex, but the review applies to pretty much both Tennex and Toyo Roki. AFAIK the old JDM (and factory USDM) S2K filters are Tennex, but new JDM (and USDM) S2K owners are now getting new Toyo Roki replacement filters instead.
EDIT: the Toyo Roki pn: is 15400-PCX-004 and I believe the filters that all S2K's get from the factory in Japan is pn: 15400-PR3-014. Some USDM dealerships are starting to get "S2000" specific oil filters, so if you call up your local Honda dealer and ask for pn: 15400-PCX-004 you may get lucky. Dont ask for an "S2000" filter though, ask for it by part number.

whats the benefits of an sk2 filter on a d series?? smaller filter and it raises oil pressure like the rsx filter does?? some one fill me in please...
It's amazing how good information disappears on this board but crap stays around forever.
The new standard Honda filters are small...made by Fram/Honeywell and maybe another manufacturer. I can't tell you anything about the new ones because I haven't cut one open. I've read they make steadier oil pressure.
The older Honda filters up to the end of production were made by Fram and Filtech. The Fram/Honda filter is better then what you buy off the shelf at Wal-Mart but it's still a Fram.
The new s2k filters are the same size as the old Honda filters but made by Toyo-Roki, who has made the JDM OEM Honda filters AND HAMP filters for quite some time. Both the HAMP and the s2k filter can be found for sub $8 prices if you know where to look(or even bother to look you lazy bastards).
Intrestingly...after installing a new s2k and old standard Honda filter back to back on a CRVtec with oil pressure gauge, the the s2k showed 5psi more pressure.
So ask yourself why Hondas new tiny filter isn't suitable for the s2000. Purely speculation here:
new Accords/Civics etc use thin weight 0w-20, too thin for performance oriented s2k engines/drivers?
Accords/Civics don't rev like a s2k...either you hit redline or your Mom doesn't drive like that. Maybe the s2k filter is better suited for high rpm ranges.
Anyway, here's a side by side internal comparison of the old Honda standard, new s2k and HAMP filter:
http://effinmotorworks.com/Filters.htm
PS...the price on the s2k filter in the article was when they were brand new. They are less now.

The new honda's take 5w-20 not 0w-20, only european cars take the ow-xx.
If youw ere to go to wal mart or autozone and buy a honda fram filter, you can put either a ph3593a or a ph6607(think thats the number), they also go on mazdas, kias. They are suppossed to be smaller, creating more oil pressure for the motor.

15400-PCX-004...you're telling us this isn't a different filter...that it isn't a different manufacturer...that it isn't a newly available filter?
Bullshit.
I had to argue with a schmuck behind the parts counter because he insisted ALL the Hondas use the new tiny filter. I was even giving him the part number. His colleague had to step up and suggest they actually look the part number up.
It was in their computer but not the dated, bound loose-leaf parts guides they reference. Punkass bitch played like it was Hondas fault he was wrong.

It's people like you that make the rest of the human race annoying, because when someone like you comes in, and give me the run around like I don't know what the **** I'm talking about, which I do, I am more than HAPPY to find out if someone was given wrong information, I'll check service publications look and see if I can find anything, and we DO go the extra mile, even though we dont' stock the PCX filter anymore...we order one of the few cases left in the country just so we could make ******** like you happy. So before you call me a moron, pull you head out of your ***.

I have used both the S2000, and the old fitler, as well as the new (smaller) one - I will be comparing the internals when I get the chance.

Ok, here I'll just say this...yes I agree that the old filter was far superior to the new one, but in an effort to cut costs, the old filters are no longer produced...at least that I know of...that's all I'm saying, is that eventually, you'll have no choice but to use the new filter...
And we're saying this...15400-PCX-004 is a NEW filter. We're not talking about the old large standard filters vs the new small standard filters. This is a new filter that happens to be the same size as the old standard.
And you're attitude is a perfect example of why we complain about the parts guys. You assume it's just a stupid customer you're dealing with.

No you were on the offensive from the get-go...so I was defensive...I love helping people out and if I can do anything to help people get what they need(especially a fellow enthusiast) I will...what I don't like is when someone calls me on the phone, and asks if we have an oil filter for the S2K...I say yeah, he says ok. Comes down I get him a filter "no that's not the right one" I get pissed when people treat me like I don't know what the **** i'm talking about. Our dealership is one of the top 10 in the nation, I don't think we got there by not knowing what we're talking about.
