Default Hybrid H22a motor? Pics inside

Hello everyone. I am doing a bit of research on align boring (align honing) a 1992+ H23a1 block or 1993-1996 H22a block (JDM or USDM doesn't matter) to accept a 1997+ H22a4 crankshaft. The 1997+ H22a's have 5mm larger main bores and I would like to use a crank with these larger mains in my 1992 H23a1 block. Here is a really crappy microsoft paint drawing of what needs to be done. Anyone who is familiar with align boring should be able to understand these pic.

Any info appreciated. Thanks

Just take the block and crank to your machine shop and tell them you want it aligned bored 5mm over to fit the crank. It should be fine but you might have some problems, because of the 5mm larger bore, it might move the piston up higher over the deck. Not exactly sure but its possible.

Anyone else have input?

I don't see how it would move the piston up over the deck if the only thing that changed between the 2 cranks is the diameter of the mains. The stroke is the same for both motors and the block is cast the same aswell.

any particular reason you are doin this? the 50mm main'd h22 crank is plenty strong, all you gain by going to the 55mm mains of the 98+ crankshaft is more friction. 97 h22a4's still had the 50mm mains.

My mistake, 98+.

I'm doing this because my 1992 H23a block has a dent/nick in the bearing tang on the #3 main bearing. The dent is just big enough that when you install a bearing into it, it has room to move side to side. The 3,4, and 5 main bearings were in pretty bad shape and the crank from that motor was not salvagable without serious work. I'm not sure what condition the main bearing saddles are in.

So If I bore out the block to accept the bigger crank, all those issues will be fixed, and I can convert to h22a at the same time.

yeah, makes sence then. it might be more cost effective to find a h22 block and crank. normal line hone is around 200 bux, then you gota find a crank.. the 55mm cranks arent that easy to find... an f20b crank will work as well..

but if you bore it out the 55mm crank will work fine. make damn SURE to check the piston/deck height when you get it all together. even a few thou off could make a huge difference.
