d16y8 into a 89 hf crx
going to put a d16y8 into my friends rex 89 hf and i want to ask about what i need like what ecu will work best stock/vafc or p28 and any wire harness problems i want it to be as plug and play as possible. someone that has done it brake me down a list and how to. im sure i know what i need but its always easer to get it from some one that has done it. thanks later.
get a p28 and then a OBD0-1 jumper harness. That should be all you need unless you want to save a few bucks and try to do the wiring harness yourself.

yea, but what about the motor harness? cause his is a hf only 2 injectors and that crap intake man. and the d16y8 has 4 and a different style intake manifold. so if i use the d16y8 harness will it plug up to the car?
no pain no gain .. if he is plannin to put another kind of engine in it .. it can be y8,z6,zc,b16 etc etc other than the dx he will have to go and convert to MPFI.. it somethin that he will have to do sooner or later ... so yes convert to MPFI use a OBD0-OBD1 harness and use a p28 ecu for the single cam vtec motor.. good luck
hmm..i was wondering...would it be alot better if i run the obd 1 wiring harness?? right now i'm using the stock harness obd0 and soon to do a vtec swap on mine....i was thinking of using a vafc to activate my vtec....would u say switch to the obd1 harness or just keep the stock "HF" harness and activate vtec from the vafc...evenually i'm going to get a chipped ecu for higher revv...

i think the obd0-obd1 saves alot of time and alot of headaches .... instead of changin the whole entire harness ... all u need to do its add couple of them and and change some obd0 plugs for some obd1 (dist.injectors etc) and that way u can run the right ecu for the single cam vtec or any other obd1 engine u might wanna throw in there ..
or u can just take all the excistin wiring out and put all the obd1 harness in .. whichever sounds easiest i guess

i have a y8 in my 90 STD hatch. not hard at all. im running the pm6 (si) ecu and a vafc for vtec. converted to mpfi.
doesnt converting to obd1 cost a little bit more?

yes it does cost more to convert your car to obd-1 but its worth it because the vtec kicks in properly and you dont have to use a switch or hook it up to anything else and it just engages like stock.......and about the wiring being hard its not bad at all just have to change plugs like the injectors, distributor, o2, and just follow the instructions on how to do the mpfi and plug in your jumper harness and thats it!!!

thats true but i meant the p28 ecu for like the z6 it pretty much the same as the y8 didnt mean anything by it but with the vafc and such it will kick in at what ever rev you want it to but the fuel changes when vtec kicks in so id rather go stock ecu for my swap but its all up to the person~ just my 2 cents

but you can always use the vafc to adjust the fuel curve for when vtec kicks in.
