Expo 04 HPDE / Info for Auto Insurance???
Hey,
Just a quick question / concern. Has anyone here ever had to make a claim for an accident that occurred during a HPDE (similar to the Expo)? If so, did you have any trouble with your ins company accepting the claim? Are there any "precautions" or paperwork that I should obtain before attending an event such as this?
I'm just worried about the worst case scenario - I can't really afford to wreck my only car (the ITR)...
I have Allstate Insurance btw - don't know if this matters...
Thanks

You could anonomously call them and ask, that way you'll get the straight info.
Other than that I wouldn't take anyone's word for it, though I'm sure Insurance would cover a driver's education/car control situation (and has in many cases).
Just don't make the mistake of telling them or suggesting that it was a "race" or anything like that (which it isn't). Ed

depends on the ins coverer...
some of them know what a HPDE is about, and therefore deny claims, as it puts them at unnecessary risk.
complete bs, but there you go.

I was under the impression that as long as its not a timed or wheel to wheel event where you would be pressing hard to compete with others that they would cover it. HPDE is often seen as driver education/enhancement, so who knows.
I would call your own company though, and see what they have to say.
I too cannot afford to lose my Integra, as I wouldn't have anything left...

I believe a certain someone had one of these experiences, and IIRC he was using State Farm which covered his claim. Check with your own agent, though.
I wouldnt count on any insurance company covering you for sure. It would be a best case scenario if they covered it. I also cant afford to have anything horrible happen so I don't plan on driving 10/10, Im a newbie anyways so I will be taking it easy

HPDEs are usually considered driver education because they are non-timed events, unlike wheel-to-wheel racing or Solo events.
Always check with your specific insurance provider before going out on track. Different provers and different policies will vary, of course. Some will cover such accidents, some will require you to pay for additional coverage, and some may not cover you at all. Make sure that they know and understand that an HPDE is not competition, but rather a driver education event.

I have Allstate, and my policy specifically does not cover any driving events (HPDE, timed or not that take place at a facility that is designed for competition, i.e., a track. I remember checked around a year ago and all the major insurers had incorporated this broad language into their policies. If anyone knows of "street" policy that does not disclaim coverage for hpde style events, I'd like to know.

Thats the best way to think about it. Until you have a dedicated track car with a 5-point harness, race seat, and roll cage you shouldn't be driving at 10/10ths.
I'm going to try to keep it down to 8/10ths, but I know thats not easy to do.

I feel safer at a HPDE than just putting around my neighborhood.
At least there are no make up applying, newspaper reading, food eating and cell phone yappin' drivers on track.

No insurance company under the sun will knowingly cover any type of high performance driving event. Wether its road course, drag strip, auto-X, etc.

I've seen a few bad crashes and spinouts in the last few years racing. If there is any instructor education, some insurance companies will cover it because it would fall under driver education, not competative racing. If you mention the words "race track", "race", "competative", or anything of that sort, count out any coverage by your insurance company. If you tell them that you were enrolled in a driver education course and your car crashed (which could be the truth if you have instructors), you have a good chance of coverage. Thats been my experience.
