Another Harness question...
I've always wanted to do track racing, but since no tracks are less than 4 hours away, I recently started doing autocross. I felt sort of loose on the seat, meaning i would slide a bit (VERY little, but still very anoying). I was asking around here and was told by everybody to just get a 4pt harness.
But after searching through honda-tech every thread says its far more dangerous than a regular seat belt if not combined with racing seat/roll bar or cage.
This is my daily driver so i would be using the harness on the street as well. Dont worry about legal aspect, here you can basically do what ever you want.
On to my questions:
1- Why is it more dangerous with out a racing seat and roll bar/cage?
2- Is it safe for street use, meaning in case of a crash or colision?
3- Where do you hook it up if you are using a stock seat?
4- Is it even worth it without a racing seat?
Thanx in advance, im sorry to post another thread about racing harness', id really apreciate the help.

I'd say hook the belt up but only use it for autox.
Keep your stock 3pt and just street that. You run into a host of problems with 4pts and safety. Rollovers and head trauma, front end accidents and submarineing.
No rollbar, no harness. Let the OEM gear in its normal setting do its job.

Use the 4-point harness for autocross only and use the stock 3-point belt for street driving. It's that simple. Or just lock your stock belt like many of us do, instead of spending $100 on a harness. It's better than an unlocked belt, and it's free.
Don't use a harness on the street. Safety equipment was made to work together as a system, not in separate pieces. Use of a harness alone on the street without a proper racing seat and a roll bar with a harness bar wil be risking injury that you otherwise wouldn't risk with the stock belts - turning what was intended as a piece of safety equipment into something dangerous. If you don't need the whole safety system, then you don't need the individual components either.
Make sure to mount harnesses properly as well - the shoulder straps should be at no more than a 45-degree angle to the perpendicular of your spine, otherwise you will risk spinal compression in a frontal collision.
Also, harnesses decrease peripheral vision and restrict movement enough to make daily driving tasks potentially dangerous.

i agree....there is still danger in the event of a rollover while autocrossing, but it's a pretty controlled environment that doesn't have much potential for rollovers.most autocross tracks are relatively low speed, and there usually aren't any surface changes to promote a rollover should you go off course.
if you move up to track events,i would either spring for the rollbar and seat to use with it,or nothing at all.

thank you for all the replies, i'll be keeping my stock belt for now then, and when i get some extra spending money i'll put in the roll cage, seat and harness.
Hopefully someday i'll hit the real tracks
