I am interested in the autopower roll bar with a 5 point harness setup of some sort. Is this setup safer than the stock 3 point, or is it more for looks? I have heard alot of people talk about correct mounting points involving harnesses so I wanted to be sure. Oh, and how functional is the roll bar setup that does not run down the A pillars? Thanks in advance.
A 5pt or 6pt with a roll bar or roll cage is safe(r) because of the anti-submarine belt (the 5th or 6th points). Since you have the roll bar, getting a 5pt/6pt is a very good idea. Since you have the roll bar, I wouldn't get the three point.
Many advantage to the harness, when properly installed.
1. Distributes the force over a greater area, causing less shock to the driver.
2. keeps you firmly bolted to the seat, and lets you concentrate on driving.
3. It is always fixed in place, ie no retractors.
4. SFI (or it should be) rated. - Fire retardent.
Disadvantages.
1. Recommended to be replaced every 5 yrs.
2. Expense.
3. Improper mounting can be dangerous.
4. Pain in the *** for daily use, ie street car.
Most 2" harness are not approved by racing organinzation.
You may want to consider a seat back brace with cage/harness. If the seat breaks you can hit your head on the cage. This can cause...do I need to explain? Sounds like you on the right track.
