Car idle stays at 1100 when braking....
Ok so when I brake to come to a stop sign or signal persay my car will idle at around 1100 rpms and it wont go back down to the normal idle speed until the car comes to a complete stop. I just replaced all my belts and the timing is all right so does anyone have any ideas why it could be doing this. I was thinking that maybe my throttle sensor is dirty or something and maybe I should clean that. If you have any good input on the problem it would be very much appreciated.
I don't know if its related, but if you pump your brakes really hard (do this when your stopped) you will notice that you idle increases (I'm pretty sure it's because of the brake booster pushing air back into the Intake manifold.) So you might want to check out the brake booster line for leaks or something like that.
well the reason why your car's idle goes up when you are stopped allready and press on the brake pedal hard is because of the hydrolic fluid being pumped causes your idle to increase to bring out the energy needed to pump the extra fluid. But back to my problem it is when I can just coast in neutral and it will still stay up at around 1100rpms so in what you were refering too is not related to my problem but thanks for trying to help.
my car does that too.. i always thought it was normal to stay at around 1100 until youve come to a stop and youre on the brakes, then itll drop
