Default In Fu@&ed, how much time left B4 engine completely gone??

alrght i just started to hear my engine knocking , its a 183k d16z6, in the origional car (Intake/Exh). The car used to go through 1 qrt of oil a week, even more when i would rev it out. 4 bottles later (75 dry) and all the 9k's my GF took the car to on the mugen chip the engine knocks. i havent squeezed in the past 2 weeks but i went 2 weeks with out adding a qrt . So now the engine knocks. How long do u guy's think teh engine will go now?? If i hear that the engine is done and isnt going to last for a while im am going to take it to its death and run a 150 shot at the track with the tow truck ready. But if it is going to last a bit i will just baby it until it dies...so anyone ever had a knocking Z6 let me know or anyone that has had a knocking engine imput will help

Depending on how far the track is, you may not even make it to the track. Rod bearings go quick once they go.

what else do you need to know?you're turning an almost 200k mile engine close to 2000RPMs higher than it's supposed to be,it's now knocking, burning oil and you're talking about taking it to the track and spraying a 150 shot of nitrous-which would be pushing a healthy Z6 close to or past it's limits!it's gonna blow up!you'll be lucky if you make it to the track in the first place.either baby it and try to make it until you can fix it,or take it to the track and have your AAA card handy....
that's all there is to it.

I want to know what cams you're running to get any power out of that poor Z6 over 6500rpms. It's pretty common (and seat of your pants) knowledge that the stockers don't make power after 7k...and even that is pushing it.

I have no pity for someone who would rev a D-series to 9k rpms. It'll go in the near future, salvage what you can while there's still time.

I have a stock revlimiter... so I've never over reved it...

BUT... I just found out the other night while doing my timing belt that my cam was off a tooth for about 4 years...

For about 2 of those it was pinging like a bitch... never went... I was just neglectful cuz it only happened from 2k rpm to 3k rpm and usually only up hills... but non the less my car was pinging for 2 years or so...

The engine didn't go... I finally retarded the crap out of the timing and it ran without pinging for another 6mo. or so... now I've fixed the cam timing and have to adjust the ign. timing and it is running WAY WAY better then it ever did...

Having said ALL of this... If you have a KNOCK as is something is bent... the car will still run for a long time it will just run crappier... My job has a 740iL that semi-hydrolocked... just enough to bend the **** out of a rod or two... and it would run forever... it just sounds like crap and doesn't run at full potential...

I wouldn't go throwing juice on it unless you WANT it to blow... cuz with a comprimized component in the rotating assembly it won't last long under high stress...

you shouldent run a shot on a mugen computer, ive seen three engines in the past 2 months dlow up because of mugen comp without spray. i would use the stock comp and retard the timing then go run 150!

Sad but true. I did the same thing to my Z6 *hammer - but I don't have it*. From the time the bottom end started talking back until it was completely gone was 20hrs - driving time was about 35min.

...sorry to hear about your situation.

well im leaning on ditching the track idea for now (once the motor is done, game on), just because i wont have anything to install right after it blows. Im building a Z6 right now (i ditched the mini-me deal) as we speak i already got the pistons i just need them pressed on the z6 rods and then im putting them in the block. I am going to use stock z6 block and rods with p29 pistons that i got from the local yard. As for the head i might smoth it out and polish the exhaust ports "as seen on The Old One's site." Manifold wise i am just going to run a y8 with obd1 injectors and ls TB. Only problem im running into is i dont know if i will have enough clearence with a stock z6 gasket. The comp. calc. gives me like 13.5 or something above 12. And if i clay, i will only get regular valve clearence, not the valve clearence with the vtec lobes. So im stuck on that as we speak, or does anyone know how to clay a motor with the vtec lobe? i was thinking just to hook up a bat to the vtec solinoid to activate it and just spin the crank with clay inside, but i dont know if this will work..so anyone have any ideas???
