Default B20 long block for $450? Need your opinion

Well this guy i know has a b20 longblock for sale he said when he pulled the motor i had a Tick he did a compression check and cylinder 3 had only 30psi. He thinks it needs pistons but has not opened it up. I was thinking of picking this motor up to do a b20vtec what do you think is it worth it?

Not worth it when you can get a perfectly good B20Z block for 750 from most engine shops.

Still. Unless you plan to build it anyway don't bother. And I would try to talk him down considerably.

Only 30 psi on a b20 spells trouble! Was the motor in running condition? Cause at 30 psi in that cylinder, that sounds like major problems? Like a ring let go completely? Could have done damage to the cylinder walls?

That low a compression could mean cracked sleeve or scored cylinder walls.

i would not.. get it... 750 is the lowest i seen on longs. i say if u plan on a complete build then get it. for 400.. but i would open it up first. if the wall is cracked then hell no.. too much money to fix.. if it is just the ring then no biggie. plus who knows how many miles it has already. and how he abused it..
