Default TACH GONE CRAZY?! PLEASE HELP!!!!

Hi, I have a problem with my 92 civic hatch thats been going on for a while now, and I am sick of it. . . . .

The hatch was originally a dx, and i dropped a zc 1.5 vtec in it when the motor was close to dieing . . . the problem is weird and the best way i can describe it is below . .

Its never an ongoing thing, it has its days when it choose to act up . . . . thel tach will jump back and forth spontaneously anywhere it wants too . . . when this happens and i apply gas, the motor feels weird, as if . . . . well almost kinda like a motor mount is lose or something, its shaky and feels as if it isnt putting as much power to the ground . . .

A grinding/rattling type noise can also be heard when this happens . . and if i slowly tach it up high or sometimes even gouge it to high rpms it bogs out and sounds like its missing or not firing right, or kind of like its hitting the rev limiter, however i know its not, because i can tell how high im going with it, and its no where near the rev limiter . . . . .

When the tachs not jumping around like I said, none of these symptoms are anywhere to be found . . . . no rattling/grinding sound , no motor feeling wobbly, and no missing or bogging out sounds on top end . . . . its crazy . . . . any help @ al would be greatly appreciated, seeing as the mechanic I normally take it too has no idea whats going on . . . . Thank you

check you vss sensor at the transny see if it is pluging tight. for the grinding/rattling noises i would try to take the vss sensor out to see if still have all it pieces.

sorry guys, been away from home . . . . lets continue this . . .

my question is though, if it truly is the distributor, then what explains the loud sound that sounds like the rocker arms, just louder, thats only made when the car messes up . . . ?

replacing your coil or igniter will/ should eliminate this problem

try unplugging the O2 sensor run it and see if there be any difference. That was causing the rev limit effect and bogging down for me... Now i'm flying like the wind... Same engine.. Believe that the tack is a lose ground issue..

7 year old thread. Doubt that this issue is still on the OP's mind.
