Default Yes, another LSVTEC question, COMPRESSION

Anyone have a stock bottom-end LsVtec?

If so are you happy with it's performance?

Do you regret not adding higher compression pistions?

I'm going to be doing:

Stock B16 head.
Stock B18b bottom-end with a 7000rpm redline.

Yes I searched.

im almost positive everyone on this board will tell you to take the time and put new pistons in while its apart. you'll thank your self later!

you'll feel a difference, but give it time your gonna want more power and rev higher.. you will get used the power quickly.. your going to kick urself if you do it half assed

importreview.com did a dyno with ls/vtec stock head, stock bottom end it put out like 140whp and 120tq or something like that......

basically a b16 with NOS octane booster.....

check out the site if you want to see some good dyno set ups with ls/v.

i built one for a friend that was on a buget and didn't want to put pistons in. it's not worth it. i say get b16 pistons you can find them for cheap.

Ok, I was talking to an engine builder and he said if I was going to install: pistions, arp rod-bolts, re-size the rods; I must balance and micropolish the crank. -is that true? did you guys do that?

On another note I'm not looking for a 10sec terror, just something fun to drive.

I will be using a B16a2 tranny with the setup in a EJ6.

Hopfully it will be alittle faster then my old swap; B16a2 in the EJ6.

Thanks.

i have a stock block ls/vtec in my dads car........it's got a 00 si head thats been milled .030.....other then that motor is stock, has i/h/e and in a full interior 89 si with a autopower roll bar it ran 14.53.....with a 2.3 60ft.......it's a great running motor and my dad drives it pretty nice, but it's been running for over a year now like that.......and not to start an argument but any ls motor is a fine "burst"" motor meaning you can shift the thing at around 8500 as long as your not hangin the motor there.......meaning just hit that rpm and shift.......the bottom end in this thing has never been touched......took the ls head off put in some arp's and a vtec head......

When we did my friends at first we ran stock bottom end, than about 2 months later we took it apart and replaced the bearings and put in B16 pistons and ARP headshuds and ARP rod bolts and there was a huge difference. Its worth the couple hundred you'll spend.

i had that same setup in my 00 si b18a bottom end with b16a pistons, ls rods, arp bolts and a bone stock b16 head i figure compression was around 11:1- maybe 12:1 it put out 165 whp ran nice then sold it to my girlfriends nephew motor has been running close to a year and hasnt lost compression. Was a cheap buildup around 1600 for machine work, block and parts(already had the head)

Heh as a matter of fact I do only because of massive money issues

heres my mod list anyway

1990 Integra GS

ENGINE : B18A1 Block, LS/VTEC, ARP Head Studs, ARP Exhaust Studs, 2000 ITR Head, VTEC timing belt, VTEC waterpump, OBD-1 B16 Distributor, AEBS Type-R Intake Manifold, Hondata Intake Manifold Gasket, HP Racing 4-2-1 Stainless Header, Thermal Research & Development Exhaust, AEM SRI, Golden Eagle Trick LS/VTEC Conversion Piece, Trick power steering removal setup, Modine Aluminum Radiator, Mugen (knock off valve cover), NGK Plugs and Wires, no A/C
TRANNY : B18A1 Tranny, ACT 6 Puck Clutch, Heavy Duty Pressure Plate, ACT Streetlite 12.5lb Flywheel, Skunk 2 Short Shift Kit
SUSPENSION : Tokico Shocks, Progress Race Springs, Revo Camber Kit, Front Strut Tower Bar
BODY : 1998 Integra Metallic Black Paint, JDM 1 Piece Head Lights, JDM Side Markers, Retrofited 92 Bumpers, 15 Inch Enkei RS6 Wheels, P205/50/W15 Bridgestone Potenza S-03's
INTERIOR : 1992 Integra GS Front Graphite Black Seats, 92 GS Steering Wheel, Everything Else is Gutted
TECHNOLOGY : Apex-i V-AFC, Autometer 5in Tachometer with Shift Light, Hondata S200

It makes damn good power on the highway, but hopefully it'll have the bottom end built really soon and the motor in my EG, and the revlimiter is at 7000rpm and is stuck there because of some **** ups I'm going to go try to fix tomorrow, I had Hondata S200 installed by the guy who built my motor who does a wonderful job but he sent back the little blue box that I'm supposed to KEEP...and I'm pissed cause I can't adjust my revlimiter without that blue box.
