Removing Power-everything
Searched, but only found the opposite...does anyone know how difficult it is to convert power windows to manual cranks on an EG-coupe and what is needed?
I am looking to lose some weight, through ditching these and turning the sun-roof into a lexan moon roof, sans motor and tracks. Is it worth the effort to lose some weight for Solo2 SM and maintain eligibility? I'd think so, considering some civics came withouth any of those. How much weight do you think this will free up?

You should be able to stay in SM from the weight loss, and I don't think the manual rack will change your eligibility. The moonroof thing sounds like more money than it's worth. Maybe a cf block off plate would be nice, but still a bit pricey. Removing weight from the top of your car is the most beneficial place to remove weight though if oyu have the money to do it. The power steering it good to remove since it will also free up some power on the engine. Here's a writeup someone sent me on converting racks (I think it's manual to power, but the process should be the same either way). I'm about to install a manual rack once the weather warms up a tad, so if I get that done I'll let you know how it went.
yes removing power steering frees up some good power
. Doesn't = to much weight though. I just bought some fittings and took out all the parts from the power steering system and looped the rack using the fittings and a "power cooler" hose from acura.

i stripped my EX coupe of almost evreything-A/C,P/S,sunroof(which was definately a considerable weight savings),etc...
the only thing i didn't change was the power windows.honestly,i don't think there's that much weight to be lost.look at the following diagram comparing the two.the electric motor(part #5/10) is the main difference, and i can't imagine it weighs a LOT.you may drop a couple pounds, but i don;'t think it's worth it.

the regulator assemblies(parts #2/9 and #1/8)are different part numbers,so it's not as easy as just removing the motor and replacing it wit the crank mechanism.apparently it involves swapping the whole assembly.

Just realized I never posted the link from the write-up.
I got it from monicle (where I also got my manual rack, was very clean, and the packaging could survive a 20 story drop):

dude if u got the power windowsl, i would just leave them in the civic, your not gonna loose that much weight and you will get tired of leaning over your seat to roll down the passenger window
