'91 civic with JDM type-R, which aem CAI to use?

Default '91 civic with JDM type-R, which aem CAI to use?
I ordered the 88-91 aem intake, but the engine in the car is a JDM type-R. I have just realised that the civic aem tube has a diameter of 2.5'', whereas the type-R aem intake has a 3'' tube. Yay or nay?

If you relocate your battery, the 99-00 Civic Si cold air will fit nicely and is 2.75" rather than the standard 2.5"

Ok, but anybody has experimented with different sizes? What would the outcome be of using 2.5 instead of 3''?
