I'll be honest. First time I took it to the track I was only able to get two runs in. First ever was a extremely pathetic 15.9, and the second was a little improvement of 15.6@92mph. I haven't really been able to nail a good launch in it, but I'm sure the car can run a low 15/high 14. As far as my driving, I was able to run 15.2@89mph in my 2000 Si with only an AEM intake on it, so I think I have that part down, just need more practice. I think a Prelude would be a great race for a type S like mine. Being that they have the same amount of power, I think the Type S might scrape by ahead do to its better gearing, but with a skilled driver and a good launch, the Prelude should be able to win.

assuming both cars are stock, the RSX-S should always win...

Yes, they both have 200HP with about the same torque. but the RSX is much lighter, has better gearing, and is overall upgraded including the suspension. But that's all theory talking...

On the streets however, its totally different. I'm pretty sure most cars out there aren't stock, and the drivers are all different.

In my case, I raced my friend's stock RSX-S twice, and he beat me by a bumper the first time, and half a car the second. And I race my friend's Prelude w/ AEM, and I beat him by a car most of the time. But thats up to 95mph. He starts to pull after that little by little. So on the streets, ANYTHING can happen.

I'm pretty sure a Prelude can beat an RSX-S with a great launch...

I feel that RSX-S are kinda laggy provided that I have driven one. The main thing that concerns me is the throttle response. It isnt that responsive. Maybe the car was new and hasn't been broken in yet. 200 HP does sound like a lot but when you are actually driving it doesnt feel like 200. Did you guys know there is a subwoofer inside the spare tire! Kooooooool!

The type-s doesn't make more power than the base till you hit about about 5500 rpms. So, if you weren't up beyond there you probably didn't feel the extra power. The base is probably even more powerful(and quick) up until that point, because the torque curve for the base peaks at 4000 RPMS and the torque curve for the Type-S peaks at 6000 RPMS and the base is lighter, base-2694lbs, type-s 2767lbs.

Actually, the Prelude has 16 more lb-ft of torque, which peaks at lower RPM (158 @ 5300 vs. 142 @ 6000), and weighs only 100-225 lbs. more depending on the generation (RSX-S: 2820 lbs, 93-96 Prelude VTEC: 2920 lbs, 97 + Prelude SH: 3045 lbs.) As for the gearing, the RSX-S has only slightly shorter gears than the 97+ Prelude, which has taller gears than the earlier Prelude VTECs.

I will admit that the RSX-S is (should be) faster than a GSR by pure numbers but Ive seen some very pathetic real world answers that say otherwise. Have two friends who just bought RSX Type-Ss. We all went to the track one weekend. They could not get a good launch out of that car. Massive wheel hop. Just couldnt launch at anything with wheel spin. Even when I raced my buddy head to head I was able to pull away slightly at the end. Course the engines were under 1000 miles... but still. The best RSX-S of the day was 15.6 - thats about what a stock GSR can do.

I like the RSX-S alot... The car handels like a dream, gear box is sensational.. but its deffinately not for dragging. I dont see how Car & Driver got a 14.8.
