just install new header but something is wrong!! pic inside
i am pretty sure i did everything right! but some how when i stop at the red light and i shift into neutral and it feel s like my car is choking.
what did i do wrong?

what did i do wrong?
and also, my new header has only one hole for o2 zensor, so which one should i plug in. i know 96 ivic have two o2 sensor..
what motor do you have? You blug the upper number one o2 sensor into the header. The number two goes into your cat. If you have a y7 motor from then your cat is actually on the header so you will have to move your cat down past your new header. Make sure the number 1 primary o2 sensor it bolted into the bung on your header...otherwise your car will run like ****. If the second one isn't plugged into your cat you will probably throw a code, but it really doesn't do anything. I ran around for a long time with that code because I had a test pipe...i just reset my ecu every couple of days.

Oh boy...there are probobally 10 different variations of "D16" engines. If you have a y7 (which can be found in every SOHC 96+ civic except for the HX with is a D16y5 and an EX, which is a D16y8) your catalytic converter was actually in your exhaust manifold just like Matt said. If you put a header on your car, you only have a bung for your primary 02 sensor and you need to have a catlytic converter welded in downstream of your header. You also need to have a bung welded in after your cat, so that you can use your secondary 02 sensor.

how know what is the one 02??
how know what is the one 02??
is it ok to have a exhaust without a catalic converter?? does it affect anything? sorry for the stupic question.
Did you say you needed a cat welded in downstream of the header, or bolt one on between the end of the header and the beginning of the cat-back? Cause i am going through this problem and everything is ******* up with my car.
yeah,,i got a d16y7 engine and i recenly installed a new after market header and that header has no catalic converter, but i know my stock header has one. anyway, now my car idles when i am stoping at the red light. but it only idle for like 2 or 3 seconds thought. i am thinking to get a 2 1/4 in costum exhaust pipes to replace my stock pipe and mabey install a new catalic converter on there
I have the same engine with a header installed and a cat relocated underneath the car, just like the si and ex models. i suggest you do the same... you will also need a 02 sensor installed...
do you have your stock exhaust? if so, the easiest thing to do is buy a cat-back exhaust for an ex and there will be a spot in between the cat-back and the header for a cat. Then get a muffler shop to drill and weld you a hole big enough for an o2 sensor at the beginning of the cat-back exhaust. Then it should work normal.
oh yeah, undo your battery before you work on anything.
