Default Question about Displacement?

What is actually being displaced when talking about displacement? Are we talking about the liters eg. 1.6L , 1.8L, 2.0L, and 2.2L of a motor? Sorry, this is a noob question I just need to know. Thanks

Liters meaning how much gas is being used? How exactly does that work?

It's the sweep volume of your cylinder X number of cylinders.

Yeah, it's how much volume the pistons sweep as they travel up and down.
