My wings west kit is sort of scratched up from manufacture/shipping.

How do you guys finish the surface and make it smooth? I am going to be installing it prior to painting, but I think it would be easier to smooth out the finish with the kit off the car. I was thinking sandpaper/some sort of urethane solvent or something? I am not exactly sure how this works.

I am sort of weary of removing the small amount of shine left in the urethane pieces though... I am not certain when I am going to be able to get the car/kit painted together.
