Default Help for a Newbie

I'm new to the board and I'm hoping to get some advice/feedback and suggestions. My wife and I are currently looking for a 98 or newer Accord - preferably EX.
We have narrowed it down to two chhoices.

98 Accord EX V6 - 78,000 kms - $21,000 Cdn
99 Accord EX 4cyl stick - 25,000 kms - $22,500 Cdn

How do the two engines compare? Automatic vs. stick. What is the best combination? Are there any trouble spots we should look out for?

Thanks for your time and input,
John

That is a very tough choice. You didn't mention if you're looking at sedans or coupes. I'm sure you're looking more for utility than for a car to run around a closed circuit course. Had the V6 lower mileage (kilometerage?) I'd say definitely go for it. It is more of the family-hauler. Plenty of power and an automatic. The four cylinder is also a very nice engine, smooth and torquey for a four. It's much lighter than the V6, so it makes that car much more tossable, and especially with the 5 speed manual it's the sportier of the two. Neither car should have any issues, both exhibiting Honda's trademark reliability. So, really, your choices are between a V6 luxo cruiser or 4 cylinder luxo sport.

I've got a 99 EX Accord Sedan 5-speed. I'd highly recommend the 5-speed, its a fun car to drive around. You can get the car to crank, you can get the car to go well past 100mph and it handles great. For a 4cyl it whips.

the V6 is definitely faster with 200bhp, but a 5-speed is so much fun...i say go for the stick...

I too would go for the 5speed... it's more fuel efficient, and the car you're looking at has almost 50K less kilometers on the odometer. Plus with a manual transmission, you can actually control the power delivery to the road...
