Default Attn. JG LUDER

JG whats up. I ran in to a big problem last night. I was racing a vette at 4 in the morning, and I kind of misshifted from 4th to 5th. My reprogrammed ecu has no rev limiter. Long story short, I know I have bent valves.

What am I all going to need to replace other than the obvious. Should I just send my head somewhere to get done. Who would you recommend to do the headwork? While its off the block I might as well do something serious to it. What about cams? Who do you recommend? Thanks for you help.

At least I was beating this Vette until this happened!

*ouch*

Well, let me be the first to tell you:
WELCOME TO MY HELL!

OK, next, Personally, JG Engine Dynamics did an AWESOME job on my head. It came out sooooooooooooo clean and perfect. They take forever, but the head was... well... I wanted to sleep with it under my pillow.

They're pro series head is $1100-$1200?

IF you do the block, you have to resleeve it then put in some pistons. How fast ($$$) do you want to go?

I want to run a mid 12 all motor in my Civic Hatch full interior! This is my goal, and I am not going to stop until I get it. Please, any advice is going to help. I dont know who to trust and I dont want to just hand over my head and block to some company I dont know.

Daily driver:

Mid 12's. 12:1 CR and some fuel upgrades. Fuel pump, FPR, VAFC etc. (Unless you wanna go big daddy and the safe route and get a standalone... )

Basically you want to bore and sleeve your block, get some JE or Arias pistons 12:1 CR and some Crower rods. (Titanium would RULE, but regular will due. )

Leave the Honda crank.

Now, when you do the head, you're going to need to keep the pistons in mind. Don't let the company mill the head or deck the block too much, otherwise you have TOO much compression, and you're screwed. (like me)

I wouldn't necessarily "recommend" JG Engine Dynamics, but give them a call and talk to them. They did a good job on my motor. They take forever, but they did a good job. Talk to Joel or Javier directly if you call. The lady (Nancy) that answers the phone is retarded and will only screw you up. http://www.jgenginedynamics.com or (626) 281-5326.

Now, a few other places to look for are Kurt Gordon motors (KG motors) or the place that did VeeTec's motor did an AWESOME job on his. Not as pretty, but his car was a fast *** N/A Prelude. Can't argue with that. I'll try to remember the name of it for you. There's a place in Florida that Jinxproof used, and they did his car right too. Turbo'd B18 in a hatch, 11.23 @105 and he still has stuff left to do. Eagh....

As for the head. Have it ported and polished, and then see about having the quench area shrunk (they reshape the combustion chamber) Stainless steel valves with a swirl polish, stiffer springs, titanium or aluminum retainers (aluminum is actually a tad lighter) and some killer cams. For camshafts, I'd call WebCam and talk to Laurie. She was one of THE most helpful people I've run across in the import business. (909) 369-5144. Feel free to tell her I said that. They can custom grind you something that will REALLY work depending on what you have. Now, if you want new cams, they can do that too. Just ask her about it. Or you could go the simplton route and get Crower or JUN.

Quaife LSD, Unorthodox racing or Fidinza light weight flywheel, a nice clutch and you're set. You should run 12's.

Track car:
Everything above but strip that bitch like it was a hooker at your bacholer party, and 13:1 compression.

I don't have much to add, but KMS did a good job with my motor.

It all depends on how much you want to spend as to how much power you'll end up making.

At the very least if you're going to build the motor you should get stage 2 headwork, port and polish, 5 angle valve job intake, 3 angle exhaust, power honing, cams(I suggest Web Cams custom grinds to the specs of your build, make sure to tell them you want an aggressive profile), I would leave the crank stock unless you shotpeen it, pistons with at least an 11.5 cr, narrowed and tapered valves(you don't need new ones, the stock valves can be narrowed and tapered, and they seat better than a lot of aftermarket valves, according to KMS), and ofcourse higher rate springs and titanium retainers.

As far as the pistons go you can go aftermarket, but be warned that they seating of the rings with aftermarket pistons is risky. You can also have custom work done to the stock pistons.

If you want to get great advice call KMS and talk to John Kauffman, he is an expert in building Honda motors, and his shop has a complete mill as well.

His web site is http://www.honda-performance.com

You can get his number from there.

He is also a veteran SCCA racer and champion.

Just know that going crazy is going to cost around well over $10K depending on what you have done and a moderate job will still cost over $5K.

It is also time consuming, you're car will be down for a couple of months more than likely.

Make sure you check out the shop wherever you get the work done, KMS will be glad to show you their work and shop. John usually has several projects going at one time.

Hope it works out for you.
