i herd that 0W30 is the best thing to get for our motors and was wondering if that was correct.
mobil 1 just came out with 0W30 full synthetic oil and i was wondering if anyone tryed it and if anyone recommend using 0W30 instead of 5W30

I use AMS 0w30. Great stuff.

Try reading your owners manual next time.

The only 0W-30 i would suggest would be the German made Castrol Syntec, it tests out the same as the other 5W oils in terms of viscosity.

i didnt say it was the best i said i herd it was the best one to get

According to the owner's manual, 5W30 is the preferred viscosity at all temperatures.

if i should get 0W-30 for my next oil change. thats why i asked if anyone tryed it and if anyone recommend using 0W-30 instead of 5W-30 like i wrote in my first post

If you are using Mobil 1, stick with 5W-30.

Since i want to save making a thread ill just ask here, does anyone know the recommended oil for a GS-R. I was told to use 10w30 since my motor has over 60k.

I have always used 10w-30 (sometimes straight 30) in my gs-r. I live in florida where the cold weight isn't as important IMO.

 

I've looked at lots of oil reports on the bobistheoilguy forum, and I've got many samples done myself.

I'm not sure what to recommend anymore. At first, I would say 0w30 is insain, but looking at the numbers people are getting, it may not be that bad.

Then again, the biggest downside of 0w30 is the addidtion of additives. Most people driving normally wont break down additives like we will reving to 8400+ and driving for miles and miles at 4,000 - 5000 rpm.

The only way to know for sure is to get oil samples using 5w30 and with 0w30. See what the difference is.

 

I tend to shy from 0w30 because of the burning issue (and as jond wrote).

5w30 is pretty much the best route (for most oils).

 

when its warm i use 10-40 or 20-50
when its cold 5-30 regular or 5-50 synthetic

in all seasons? how long you have to change oil using AMS 0W30?

out of the mobil 1 line-up id go with mobil1 10w-30 year round. mobil 1 5w-30 and 10w-30 both have a pour point of -45C so i dont doubt the 10w-30's cold weather capabilty. 10w-30 has a higher HTHS (3.17&lt;3.08) and a higher flashpoint (244&lt;224) than 5w-30. they both have an equal viscosity at operating temp. (10cst@100C). 5w-30 has a higher viscosity index (167&lt;147) than 10w-30. also note that m1 0w-30 and 5w-30 has the same viscosity at start-up, 56cst@40C.

Use 10w30. It doesn't get that cold here.

 

Hey, I just put M10W30. I spoke with an engineer that tests and know about these oils. He says he uses 0W40. I don't think it is that widely available on the marked but he recomends using it and states that there are no harmful effects to this grade oil. I think somewhere in the posts someone mentioned using 20W50. I tried this oil on another car I had and blew out a seal by the oil pump. Too much pressure to work with.

0W-30 oil acts like 0 weight oil when cold, but maintains a 30 weight viscosity when hot. Think of it this way: when your engine is hot, there is basically no difference between 0W-30, 5W-30, and 10W-30 oil. They are all acting like 30 weight oil at this point. It's at cold startup, when almost all engine wear occurs, that the viscosity is different. The 0 weight oil will get to the engine components quicker than the 10 weight oil, but in reality cold 0 weight oil is still thicker than hot 30 weight oil. Ok?

 

I'm running Castrol TWS 10W60 during summer, when I'm tracking the car a lot. In winter I use Castrol SLX 0W30 which is what Honda recommend (at least in Europe). Works great for me...

 

Castrol RS 0W-40 in the winter
Castrol RS 10W-60 in the summer

thats what im using right now year round. the oil is green, huh?.
