Default What cams for this set up:

Ok so the motor build up is starting this week, and I still have to decide a few things.

Right now the current plan is:

CTR Pistons .25 over
Toda Valve Springs
Eagle Rods
Re-balance Crank
BCIII Exhuast
SMS Header
Custom IM
AEM EMS

Base motor is a JDM ITR w/ USDM ITR Tranny w/ 4.785 FD...any needed fuel delivery will be taken care of as well (pump, injectors, rail, etc..)

Now what cams would you run w/ that, I don't care about power below like 6-7 and I only want to rev to like 9.5 (if the cams keep making power I'll go higher)

Also, would you suggest that I say **** it and get some bigger pistons, go 2.0L?
I don't want to go higher than like 13.0:1 Compression though, so keep that in mind.

Nice Setup. Id go with skunk 2 stage 2 cams. not as lopey as stage 3 and they are better for a street car setup. if youre going full race get stage 3. stage 2 can pull up to 10.5 i beleive. good luck and i hope i was help with some input on your motor.

Bigger pistons=yes! But not with out resleeving obviously. If you are going to put in the money and the time, you might as well go 2.0L, the torque is awesome! I would also go with a set of cams from rocket, I have heard many good things about his products, I think you can find them at rocketmotorsports.com, but I may be wrong.

I'm a fan of JUN 3's....but some people are skeptical of the coarse idle, for street.....they got mean power gains tho.....

Just for those who have not tested both cams Skunk2 Stage 2's or Stage 3's, & guessing that they will not work CR below 12:1. The Skunk2 Stage 3's are indeed streetable with just 11.6:1 cr... they have no idle problems as they have smaller Pri. & Sec. lobes than the Stage 2's. And, here's some information for you all to share & enjoy:

Stage 2's Mid-lobes will get overlaps of 58.00 degrees. 0/0
Stage 3's Mid-lobes will get overlaps of 67.00 degrees. 0/0
Stage 2 intake with Stage 3 exhaust Mid-lobes will get overlaps of 69.00 degrees. 0/0 (Works best for all-motor)
Stage 3 intake with Stage 2 exhaust Mid-lobes will get overlaps of 56.00 degrees. 0/0 (Good for turbo)

BTW, I'm sure no one knows the specs for the Jun 3's (BTDC, ABDC, BBDC, ATDC) measured @1mm seats for the Pri, Sec & Mid neither.?!?!!? Just guessing with opinions (they are streetable too).

I think you would have alot of luck with The RS machine Vtec cam... they seem to work on any B series motors from 1.6 to 2.3 Ive expierimented with the cams for sometime now from daily driven street cars to race cars such as my own and have not found a cam yet that will out power the RS cams most people wouldnt believe it because RS doesnt really hype up there cams with strong marketing/advertising but you can take it from me it works for you guys wondering what cams ive tested this against to name a few "popular cams" Toda C&D Skunk 2&3 Jun3. Im trying to get my scanner to work as soon as i do that I will post the dyno sheets....

yeah well I traded my stock ITR head for lens Killer head...now I think I'm gonna go 84mm just so I can keep higher compression with less domed pistons..
